Hi there. I was going through my album collection, and wanted to find out if
any of my Beatle LP's were originally purchased in the '60's or if they were
re-issues, or re-prints, or whatever.
Some of them have the Capitol "6000" series printed on them.
Is there any way to find out if they are original?

The 6000 series are Canadian-only albums, namely, "Beatlemania! With The
Beatles" (T/ST 6051), "Twist And Shout" (T 6051), and "Long Tall Sally"
(T 6063). The way to tell if they are originals are if they are on the
black label with rainbow border. Later pressings were on the "target"
label (I haven't actually seen a Canadian one with this label- so I
don't know that they exist for sure...), then the Apple reissues, then
an orange Capitol one, then a purple one, and the last issues were on a
replica of the "rainbow" label.

Please excuse the typo in my previous post, regarding the catalogue
number of "Twist And Shout". The proper numbers are:

I'd have to vote those orange labels as about the ugliest label ever.
Wasn't too wild about those purples, either.

Hi Matt, Ken, all RMBers,

The 6000 Series was in fact a specialty line created by Paul White, A&R
man for Capitol of Canada in the early sixties. This line of albums, and
the 72000-series singles, was used to issue British artists in Canada.

Ken got the three original Beatles albums right, and the originals are on
the black rainbow label. The really early originals have 'Capitol of
Canada Ltd.' on the perimeter of the label. The post-Aug. 1966 pressings
have 'Capitol (Canada) Ltd.' None of these were originally issued in
stereo though Long Tall Sally has the stereo banner a left over from the
US Second Album artwork.

The albums were released on the red target label in Canada and I believe
there are two variations of this, something to do with the colouring of
the Capitol circle logo.

These albums were never released on the Apple label and I don't believe
they were on the 1980s repro black label either, haven't seen any on this
label. They are available on the Capitol orange and Capitol purple labels.

Watch for a complete article on these Canadian releases in an upcoming
issue of Beatlology Magazine.

Agreed, they were both awful.

I happen to have all three of them on the replica rainbow label, Andrew.
And some of the tracks on them are stereo, too, even though they
retained the "t" designation on the covers.
