Clearly, the worst Beatles song of all time was "You Know My Name, Look Up My
Number", which is the "B" to "Let It Be". The Beatles were obviously having
fun putting together this farce and placing on the opposite side of one their
most popular songs.

They began recording the song "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number" long
before "Let It Be" was even written.

I would vote for "Run For Your Life" as the Beatles's worst song. I know
John disavowed it later. Its attitude has not held up well.

My vote for worst song would be 'Savoy Truffle' from the White Album. And
also I would include 'Wild Honey Pie' from the same album.

For me, the worst Beatles song was " Revolution 9 and Wild Honey Pie."

Subject: Re: Worst Beatles song

Ah this is all wrong, cause lots of people are going to appreciate greatly
the top ten Worst. In fact some of these "worst" songs appear on many
peoples lists of favorites.

So what might be a more proper manner to find the worst song? Maybe it
should be the song from their officially released repetoire that one has
most trouble recalling by its title. So actually the most mediocre and
forgettable song ends up being the worst. You might hate a certain song,
but I damn well bet you can remember its hook.

Of course this doesn't really equate to worst but it is a different take
on the matter. One would hate to call Achey Breaky Heart a good song just
because its memorable, and in fact it might not be hated so much if Billy
Ray Cyrus wasn't having to milk a career out of it.

How about the second half of the Kansas City medley, hey hey hey. Can you
hum that one? well its not by the boys anyway.

Quick, hum "You Like Me Too Much". This probably suffers from the same
syndrome of "Ask Me Why" and "I'll be Back" in that the melody in other
parts of the song overide the hook phrase. I alway used to confuse "Ask Me
Why" and "Tell Me Why" because of the similar titles.

Speaking of "When I Get Home," which is one of my _favorites_, I was
wondering if the Searchers covered this. There is a track on "The
Searchers Greatest Hits" (Rhino) by the same name, and I was wondering if
it's the same one.

Hmmmm....they also did "Farmer John." "Mmmmm, Farmer John, I'm in love
with your daughter..." "...I'm gonna love her til the cows come home."
There's got to be a connection there somewhere.

According to Lewisohn's book, the Sax's were distorted (at
George's request). Not sure why someone felt this was the
worst Beatles song. IMHO, Revolution #9 is by the far the most
unlistenable song they've released - I always skip past this

Well, the horns do sound great, but the song itself (music) doesn't really
appeal to ME. Songs I like better are: Love You To, Taxman, Long Long
Long, While My Guitar, Something, I Me Mine, For You Blue, Old Brown Shoe,
Here Comes the Sun, It's All Too Much, Only a Northern Song, All Things
Must Pass, Wah-Wah, and so on and so forth...

I whole-heartedly agree! Savoy Truffle is one of George's best! The
"beef horns" are fantastic, the guitar solo is amazing and the lyrics are
funny!

I think the open debate on this subject has yielded an interesting result,
one which I did not realize was a result in and of itself until I was having
breakfast today.

It is that there is no definitive "Worst Beatles song"... which is a good
thing to settle! For, as we have seen (and said) over and over again, for
every song someone says is not worth the plastic it's encoded on, someone
else will step forward to say that they like that song, indeed, it is one
of their favorites.

The Beatles managed to make every song they created pleasing to someone,
which is quite an accomplishment. Now, I suppose one could argue that
EVERYthing is pleasing to SOMEone; however, the resolution that "The Beatles
made no songs which disappointed their audience" is worth carving into
stone by this scholarly body.

At least, in my scholarly opinion.

The Hard Day's Night album tested the country waters ("I'll Cry Instead")
and Beatles For Sale explored the genre even further.

Act Naturally was a song recorded by Buck Owens. Without Buck Owens there
more than likely never would have been the Beatles Song "I Feel Fine",
which is a direct descendant of another Buck Owens tune whose name I can't
recall at the moment.

Most of the Beatles early Lead guitar technique came from fifties country
artists. Perhaps more than the beatles leads could be attributed to Chuck
Berry, they can be attributed to Scotty Moore (elvis), Chet Atkins,
etc....

Nope. The Searchers' song is a lot more mellow and, while it has a

All the sitar ones with no melody, + "Ask Me Why", because its sounds a bit dippy when John

It would seem more awkward if John was singing "Woo-woo-woo-woo" alone,
but "Ask Me Why" is one of the earliest examples of the three part
harmony that culminated in "Yes It Is," "This Boy" and even "Because."

What about the part in "Do You Want To Know A Secret?," the "Whoa-oh-oh,
closer..."? Does that sound dippy?

I'm sorry to disagree but I think it's a stretch to put "Ask Me Why" in the same category
as "This Boy", "Yes It Is" etc. Not that I don't think it has any redeeming value, or
better or worse than Gerry et al. or whatever, just more trite and june-spoony than other L-M
songs of that period. Maybe if they sang "I love you-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" instead. I dont think
"whoa-oh-oh closer" is dippy at all. I like Billy J.s version of DYWTKAS? too. Regards, Al

Just a quick comment... I find it interesting that so many people
are choosing "Revolver" as their faveravefab LP (it's mine too),
yet nobody's picking songs from it in their top 5 songs. This reinforces
to me what a strong overall ALBUM it is, rather than a mixed bag with some
outstanding songs.

Worst Beatle song...that's easy. "Don't Pass Me By" (sorry Ringo!)
"Mr. Moonlight" and "Wild Honey Pie" are close seconds.

Favorites Songs? They're are too many to count. This moment - "In My
Life" is a classic.

Favorite Beatle? It's a tie - John & Paul.
