I wish I lived in the desert
Among the prickly pears
A change of scene couldn't hurt
I'd breathe sage-scented air
I wish I lived in the desert
Forbidding and remote
In the brush I'd find comfort
Camped out by creosotes
I wish I lived in the desert
A hardy habitat
I'd welcome the warm weather
Befriend the big-eared bats
I wish I lived in the desert
It's where I could be weird
From my pores hot sweat would spurt
I'd sport a shaggy beard
I wish I lived in the desert
A realm otherworldly
Hear the kestrels in concert
Harvest the peyote
I wish I lived in the desert
I'd hunt for arrowheads
Look over limestone and chert
Ferret out fossil beds
I wish I lived in the desert
On rustic fare I'd dine
Give wide berth to sidewinders
Explore abandoned mines
I wish I lived in the desert
Tough terrain I'd traverse
In the dark, silent, alert
I'd watch for meteors
I wish I lived in the desert
I'd ferment agave
Marvel at gila monsters
Gaze at indian graves
I wish I lived in the desert
With tortoises I'd traipse
Nature's alchemy overt
In unearthly landscapes

Once you harvest the peyote, you won't know where you are...or give a shit.

Come on out. It's gonna be 116 tomorrow. I do have some creosotes you
can sleep next to.
