So JL had half sisters (Julia Baird and another one) via his mum's
side...and two Brothers via his dad's side (with the young
Pauline..they be the same age as me....unless I carry on with my 37
chirade)..but one wonders if he ever talked of them or mentioned
them..the photo I used for the Rec.music.beatles FB group was from a
photo taken by Julia baird (which was given to me as birthday present)
of her brother in NYC..so they clearly knew of each other and she
visited the Dakota..did JL ever talk of them...Seems like a Saki q to
me....

I assume you knew that some of them lived in Brighton at one stage?

Well I imagine the brothers did..since Fred and Pauline were on Ladies
Mile Road for a while..but god knows what happened to them..I presume
Pauline is still kicking around though she must be knocking on a bit
now...

Incidentally duno if you remember my story about LM Road..but some
friends of mine lived next door to Freddy Lennon! and each and every
apple record upon release was delivered to JLs dad..it was spotted!!

John didn't talk publicly about his half-brothers and half-sisters,
though he visited Julia and Jacquie in the 1950s. Their mother was Julia
Lennon and their father was John Dykins, all living in Liverpool at the
time not too far from John's home with Aunt Mimi on Menlove Avenue.

John didn't know his half-brothers, David and Robin, sons of Alf Lennon
and Alf's second wife Pauline Jones, but he knew about them. John was in
touch with Alf via phone when Alf was dying of cancer in 1976 but that's
as close as he got to a relationship with Alf's second family.

John didn't know about a third half-sister, born Victoria Elizabeth
Lennon in 1945 to Julia Lennon (then estranged from Alf) and a sailor
known as Taffy Williams. Victoria was adopted by Peder and Margaret
Pedersen and was brought up in Norway, where she's now known as Ingrid
Pedersen. Ingrid revealed her origins after Margaret Pedersen died in 1998.

Many of us are familiar with the famous Hunter Davies book. The Davies
Beatles bio was quite edited . . . Davies had written a draft
manuscript for each of the Beatles to look at, comment upon, etc.
Davies reported that the original draft had some information about
JOhn's half sisters, and one of the comments John had made regarding
his draft was that he did not want his half sisters mentioned much
because, "he hardly knew them" and he did not know if they would want
to be in the book.

I also have some Beatles cards somewhere. One card is a photo of John
and on the back there is some personal information. Instead of saying
he had two "half sisters" IIRC it says he had two "step sisters."

At the time John was interviewed for the Davies book, I don't think $$
$ was a consideration. Based on things Cynthia had written and Julia
Baird had written, John stayed in touch with two of his half sisters
off and on even while he was a Beatle. Indeed, his two sisters had
been raised and cared for by an aunt and uncle (I forget their
names . . .Harriet and Norman??) and John had bought a house for
Harriet and Norman. Cynthia claimed in her book "John" that the
intent was that the two girls inherit the house if and when Harriet
and Norman died.

So back in 1967 and/or 1968, John was friendly with his two half
sisters, although he probably did not see them much.

It is strange that he'd be so out of touch with them later on.

When you say, "later on" what years do you mean?

Based on various Lennon bios I have read and statements from J & Y as
well as interviews/statements from Julian and other "insiders," I get
the distinct impression that once John met Yoko, he diminished and/or
cut ties to his English family and friends. John was isolated in NY
during his last years, and I believe, Yoko encouraged it or had a
direct role. IMO she wanted John (and his money) all to herself.

A number of people (Jagger, Pete Shotton, Julia Baird) complained that
they would try to contact John and could not get through or he would
not respond.

Baird touches upon this in her book. IIRC she confronted Yoko about
this after John died, and Yoko made some remark that she kept John
isolated "to protect him." Julia responded, "From his sisters???!!"

IMO, John probably had some emotional problems (i.e. depression,
anxiety) during the last years of his life, and these issues may have
become worse when he was reminded of England or his childhood.
