There's no need to be rude to fellow fans! Her question was as valid as
others seen on this newsgroup.
FYI Mike Ward doesn't smoke.

: FYI Mike Ward doesn't smoke.
Greg doesn't smoke either.

.......or Mario, if I'm correct.
So that just leaves Rami (who smokes cigars on stage) and Jake. Why dont I
just pop in my 2 cents since we're on the subject? :0)
Rami and Jake know what they're doing. I mean, it'd be cooler if they didn't
smoke, but it's their choice. They're adults, they know the consequences. If
they lung cancer, I'm not going to say "oh poor baby". It's their own fault.
They'll bring it upon themselves. So, in conclusion, different strokes for
different folks.

Neither does Mario...actually, the only Flowers that smoke (that I know of)
are Jake and Rami. It's not like I approve of smoking but, come on, is that
going to keep the boys from making great music? I highly doubt it. Sure, it's
not good for your health and all that stuff but if that's what makes them happy
then who am I to criticize? Life is too short to worry about s**t like that ,
anyway.

i totally agree.
Isn't this reply a bit harsh for someone who was just asking a question?
Susan
just in case anyone was curious I don't think Mario smokes either because I
read an interview where he said " even the second hand smoke is getting to me"
but I agree that I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal over this,
SO WHAT!!!!
First of all, I like Dicky Barrett. I think his voice is really cool, and it
gives the Mighty Mighty Bosstones an interesting sound(Being the only
Wallflower fan who also is a huge MMB fan, that I know of). I tend to agree
with the majority on this board and say it's thier choice. Both my parents
smoke huge amounts, and I work in a gas station, and I know what it does to
people. I've also known people who have died from lung cancer. I'm sure all
of the Wallflowers are aware of this fact. They are grown-up and can decide
for themselves. I'm only 18 and I know what happens to people. They're in
thier late20's and I'm sure they know too.
I really like the MMB!! I mean not as much as Wallflowers, but you can't say
knowbody does, cuz I do!! see ya

Ooohhh, thank you, I didn't know anyone cared :-)
FYI i'm working on doing a major update on the Mike Ward website which will
hopefully include a Q&A from the people on this newsgroup (please don't send
any questions yet). I'll also be adding personal information (DOB, home city
etc. etc.) to make it a really comprehensive site about him. Mike hasn't
been in the best of health recently though so it may be a few weeks before I
get the go ahead and can ask you all to send me your questions, so get
thinking of some good ones.

Not that this matters in any way at all (and i'm not name dropping either)
but when they came to the UK and I was hanging out on the tour bus :-)
Jakob asked if it was OK by us if he lit up. So all you anti-smokers/Jakob
lovers can console yourselves in the fact that Jakob is a considerate smoker
;-)

Oh my... my pet peave! :) Rainy Day WOman is not about getting stoned!
While the quote "everybody must get stoned" was enough to give the uptight
a coronary and ban the song from the radio (and this result was probably
somewhat intended), if you listen to the lyrics the song is about getting
stoned (figuratively) for how you feel and believe.
It's kind of like the opposite from those songs that sound really
innocent, but if you listen hard, they are really about drugs. Rainy Day
Woman SOUNDS like its about drugs, but if you listen to it, it has quite
an innocent message.
sorry, I know this has nothing to do with the Wallflowrs smoking...

wow...thank's for posting that! i'm not really a great Bob fan, but i can
certainly appreciate his music...and am always interested in learning from
people who know more then i do! (haha...god that sounds dumb,..) but
really, thanks again!
Dianne
oh wow, dene... you must tell me more about that!!!
Dianne
I care also, Dene. Good to see you around again.
Thanks for putting together a site for Mike Ward. That will really be a
pleasure to check out. I hope Mike is okay. I hope he will get better soon,
what ever the problem is.
Sylvia
Hello, what is the problem with Mike..I mean is this Mike Ward? What
happened?
Cinnderlla
On jenny McCarthy, the one where they played "The Difference" Mike was saying
what each band member brought to the band he said mario brought healthy snacks.
Okay, this was the most pointless post. Oh well
Jen D.
Well, actually, I find myself in the total reverse position.
Not that I necessarily think that the Bosstone's current stuff is
better than their old stuff, but I never really got into them
until Let's Face It kinda shoved their music into my CD collection
by being played so much. The thing was, back when they were a
smaller time local band, I used to go to parties with them and stuff,
and they were just kind of regular in my mind, because Boston was
pretty darn cramped with really good local bands. If you look back at
the late 80's and early 90's, there were a ton of bands that were
putting out music as good if not better than what the Bosstones were
doing then. Ever hear of a now-defunct band called The Cake Eaters?
(later to be known as This Electric). Man, real good stuff, a lot
of whose songs were written by a kid named Dan Dratch, who has
sort of been out of the music scene in recent years, unfortunately.
And I'm positive that almost all of you would have *loved* their stuff.
But my point is that if you had to rewind and re-evaluate the
old Bosstone's stuff, sure you can find some real awesome music there,
but it's their current incarnation that brought their music into
the mainstream (and into my CD collection). And I can't count
the number of local bands that had stuff I liked equally as much
or even better than what the Bosstones were doing. But since the
majority of the other bands never hit mainstream like that, most
of their stuff has faded out of my memory. So I think you can't
have a resentment for the evolution of the band and their music,
because, yes, they're still the same guys, primarily still into the
same things they were into when they did their old stuff, and for that
I'd say you gotta support what they're doing today. After all,
if not for that same type of evolution, we would never have had
the Wallflowers.

Relax, probably just a bug.
-Dene
Anthea, are you SURE? I mean, I'm not trying to doubt your knowledge, but
garsh, I just can't help but not believe that....well, let me listen to Blonde
on Blonde again, and I'll listen really closely to the lyrics. You may be
right. After all if you look at the initials of the song "RDW", there aren't
any drugs that stand for that, as opposed to a certain Beatles song <wink> :0)
~Erica
~Erica :0)
Yeah, but when did you hear of this bug?
Poor Mike, I hope he feels better, at least sometime before the Grammy's. I
wonder why he's the one always getting colds.........even when they were on
tour, you'd always hear about him and (I think) Jakob getting colds.....maybe
because of their hectic tour schedule I guess.
Laterz,
Christine
Last week, he'll probably be up and about on his bike by now.

I think it was incredibly deliberate for it to seem as though it was about
drugs, and I'm sure that he knew exactly what he was saying and how it
would percieved by the public ---- and I think he was getting one hell of
a kick out of the idea of every uptight person in the world sh!ting their
pants when they hear the song. :) However, the sound, while it has these
deliberate overtones, is not about drugs. I think he's in a way poking
fun at all the people who hide the "drug" messages of their songs behind
code words. Those who make their song sound innocent, get it playing on
the radio forever, and none of the uptight take notice..... with Rainy Day
Woman, he did the opposite. I think it's rather clever :)

It is. I really like Dylan's humor (ex: "I started out on Burgundy but soon
hit the harder stuff")

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 by His Bobness
Well, they'll stone you when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone you just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone you when you're tryin' to go home.
They'll stone you when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you're walkin' 'long the street.
They'll stone you when you're tryin' to keep your seat.
They'll stone you when you're walkin' on the floor.
They'll stone you when you're walkin' to the door.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone you when you're at the breakfast table
They'll stone you when you're young and able.
They'll stone you when you're trying to make a buck.
They'll stone you and then they'll say, "good luck."
I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again.
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
They stone you when you walk all alone.
THey'll stone you when you're walking home
They'll stone you and then say you are brave.
They'll stone you when you're set down in your grave
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
:) Channa
I typed this mostly from my semi-reliable memory (plus a little assistance from
my friend the Dylan freak) so apologies to Bob fans if I screwed some of it up.
And to justify posting this on the Wallflower board, theWallflowers are great,
the Wallflowers are great, the Wallflowers are great. :)
Well, that's my five cents... Sylvia
