Suicide. For proof, get the "Video:Mindcrime" home vid and watch the
extra footage for "I Don't Believe in Love" after the closing credits.
Towards the end of the song "suicide" is flashed on the screen.
Mary was strangled by Dr. X or one of his minions with her rosary -- "your
rosary wrapped around your throat" (Eyes of a Stranger). That's my theory
anyway. You have to come to your own conclusions.
Rock into silence.

She died of old age. Nikki was so wasted that he didn't notice that she

I wsih that QR would release the Mindcrime
book that I'd heard rumored was in the works so that we'd all know the answer
to this and have an even deeper insight into the album through fleshing
out the story
in the form of a book. Either that, or I wish that one of the guys would just
say," Look, Mary was killed faulty vacuum cleaner attatchment," ...or
something!!

I have to agree with this one, it was also flashed on the screen during

Nah. Read the livecrime libretto. She killed herself. They did that
to fool you, and it worked.

If that were the case, they wouldn't have given us the obvious clues
either. I just realized something that's missing from my web site, and

Nice image. Wrong impression. It's another of Nikki's delusions.
Remember that there are also images of Father William entering the
doorway too, but Nikki killed him before confronting Dr. X. Mary was
alive when Nikki left the church, dead after the confrontation with the
doctor. Suicide. That's backed up by the tour booklet from the Empire
tour and the booklet from the LiveCrime box set with the passage "She
hated men. She hated life."
But then again, the fun comes with each listerer's interpetation. My
impression - suicide.

Not this shit again .... get a life (no pun intended), watch
Video:Mindcrime and read the Libretto. All together now ...... "It was
Suicide".

Yet more proof that this guy Mindcrimer aka Richard Ansara has contempt for
others - less knowledgeable or not. And this guy hasn't matured a bit since
Promised Land came out. He foulmouths me yet again when I tell him to make
it clear if he's kidding about something, in his posts to rmaq. Judging by
the number of posts he makes here, it is quite clear this guy has no life
outside rmaq and his Ryche web page. Go get some FRIENDS, Ansara. And don't
bother sending me a copy of your response by e-mail. I've already put a
kill file on your messages to me so you don't pollute my mailbox with your

Get used to it, Chris. New fans and some who've never thought of the
issue before will be asking these same questions forever :) Rather than
make the person asking the question feel like a piece of navel lint, I'd
rather give them some help whenever and wherever I can.

Already did. Pay attention. If you can't read the thing and figure
it out, then you don't deserve to know.

I'm hoping the new album will help me to grow up and be the best I can
since Promised Land didn't.

There it is again! The weak 'get a life' comeback. Yeah, I once
spilled Superglue on my keyboard and my fingers have been attached ever
since. By the way, at least my web page works.
>Go get some FRIENDS.
And again.
Obviously, Lax was disappointed in the defeat of his character in his
last movie, "Lax and the Search for Truth." He is now spending time in
a rehab institution for the mentally insane. We hope that someday, he
will make a full recovery. He spends all his free phone calls in the
institute on the phone with AOL still trying to figure out how Beth
Frye, someone who frequents AOL, is the same person as Mindcrimer.
Is it not at all possible that what they put in the Livecrime
libretto fooled YOU? I think the outcome is pretty clear, and it shocks
me that I've seen no other QR fan even mention this possibility:
Queensryche has never given any conclusive evidence to support any
of the three sides because - all three are equally valid. Each listener
can interepret it a different way. They created the 'mystery' and have
never outright 'solved' it because it's up to each listener to decide how
they think it should be. You can interpret the "Dr X killed her"
possibility, and the album takes on a theme of futility - despite your
best efforts, some things are beyond your control, someone will always get
the better of you. The second interpretation, suicide, lends to a theme
of love vs oppression, and Mary's inability to live with Nikki's vision of
their future together. The third, and most wacked-out, is the
possibility that Nikki killed her, but that's the part he CAN'T 'remember
now' ... the drugs obscured the memory. The whole concept of 'Eyes of a
Stranger' lends to this interpretation - Nikki being unable to come to terms
with what he has done or become. Nikki is a stranger to himself.
That's my say, and that's how I've interpreted the album for a
long time. If you choose to believe that, flat-out, suicide's the only
possibility, then, well, if that satisfies you, so be it. But *I* believe
the true genius of the album is that it's NOT so linear, that they created
the multiple possibilities so that the album could be thematically
different to each person, for each listen, for each interpretation.
I believe that the word 'Suicide' at the end of V:M, the image of Dr. X
holding the rosary, the song 'Eyes of a Stranger', the O:L libretto, and
every other 'hint' that everyone's seen <and interpreted as conclusive
evidence> all merely point to the different possible endings, none being
particularly more valid that any other.
And I'm shocked that an entire newsgroup full of Queensryche fans
so underestimated Queensryche's writing genius that they assumed Mindcrime
was a simple, uniquely-solvable mystery.

Unresolved on-line discussion of Who Killed Mary far predates
this newsgroup. From 1991 to 1995, that topic was The Thread
That Wouldn't Die(tm) in weekly issues of Screaming in Digital.
Just when everyone thought it'd been hashed out, a new reader
would say, "oh, and by the way...?" I believe there were even
some discussions of whether Mary is really dead!
The band did tell us on the Building Empires tour that there
are a few ways Mary did *not* die...
1. She was not smothered in Crisco.
2. Her flesh was not ripped by weasels.
3. She did not suffer death by vibrating plastic toys.
Other than that, they've pretty much made a point of not telling
us, thus giving a clear choice between mental tail-chasing and
simply getting on with it.

The fooling section is in the video, not the libretto. The libretto
spells it out, clear as day.
It even tells you where Nikki was while Mary killed herself, it even
tells you why she killed herself.
Believe all the crazy theories if you want.

Ah, but you fail to note the one thing that the libretto
*doesn't* say. It doesn't say *that Mary killed herself.*
Yes, it gives Nikki an alibi, and it gives Mary a motive.
But people who "hate life" can die by means other than
suicide, you know. :)
Of course, when they found out everybody was going to make some big
mystery out of it, they clammed up and let everybody have their fun.

I'm never one to deny the fact that music has moved my life in more
ways than anything else at all, but to rely entire upon someone else
to "help you grow up" is pitiful... explains a lot, actually.

Just gotta laugh. Not at you, but you obviously are new to the
newsgroup. The "who killed Mary" thread has come up on several diffenent
occasions. Basically people want to come up with their own version of
what happened to Mary. However, if you read the lyrics to Suite Sister
Mary, I Don't Believe in Love and Eyes of a Stranger very carefully I
think you can figure it out. Also the Video: Mindcrime has a hidden video
after the credits that supossedly gives the answer. Furthermore, if you
read the libretto that came with the Operation: Livecrime Box set it
pretty much spells it out in there as well. At least it was pretty clear
to me. Mind you it only took me about 7 years to really figured it
out.:-). Anyway I don't want to spoil it for you. Let us know what you
think happened to Mary. We are always interested to hear another persons
interpretation on the subject. Happy listening.

Yeah, that's fine, but when they start to argue with you about it,
then it's time to stop. If you can't believe the band, then I guess if
you want to believe that Nikki really is Mary or whatever, then fine.

If they wanna argue, then you're right; kill the thread or take it to
e-mail. But it's all in one's perceptions, so these things will
invariably happen.
I believe that the priest did it.
Nicky is thinking about suicide only becuase he is relising how
everything is becoming so complicated.
Just my 2 cents
>I believe that the priest did it.
"The priest is cold and dead..." SSM, Nikki to Mary. Sorry.
The lyrics did say the priest was cold and dead, but they did not say he
wasn't still around haunting people...or this could be a case of priestly
possession and the "devil made her do it".

Yeah, but the priest wasn't really dead! The priest was really Mary

Nah, it was a frame-up. Dr. X conjured up Father William's
ghost and ordered him to possess Nikki and it was he who killed
Mary.

Tune in next week, for another episode of "As The Stomach Turns ..." :)
You're wrong. I killed Mary.
Of course I was smart enough to frame Nikki for the crime. Hehe.
And all the ones who don't think Nikki did it, well, they all think it
was Dr. X, or Father William, or even suicide! Beautiful!
Even you were fooled, you thought it was suicide! Haha! Sucker.
And I got the proof it was me. I know where the body is. Yeah, that's
right. I hid it in Cincinatti. Yeah, this guy (I don't know who he is), threw this

I think the butler did it, with the rope in the library
sorry got confused :)
in 'Eyes of a stranger' Geoff sings: 'Your rosary wrapped around your throat'.
So maybe that's how she died. But I think even the QR-guys themselves don't
know the answer. Why don't you e-mail them and ask?!
