Am I the only one that thinks the chorus of this song really sucks? Sorry to
say it about QR but this song would have been 10 times better without... "I'm
gonna get close to you, Oh-oh close to you..." It kinda reminds me of- "It's
all about you, not me, It's all about the way that you're expecting me to be."
Definetly the two worst choruses ever by two talented bands.

Yes, but if you picture this as the thoughts of a demented psychopath, it makes
more sense.

Yeah, its like repeat those words as a mantra and soon you'll start to feel the

LOL! Good one! Hey, I happen to agree with you, Shmoe. I think it's
*the* worst Ryche chorus... well, I was gonna say that they ever wrote,
but they didn't write it.

someone who's never heard the song would dislike it if they read that
chorus in a magazine!!

Shmoe,
This is NOT a QR composition, it is a cover of a Canadian performer
named Dal Bello. Hence, the chorus remains as the originator intended.
Of course, this COULD be why Dal Bello slipped into obscurity...

Quite a few people have told me this. What I thought was that it was written
by the Ryche in '84 and included on the album after reading the notes. Guess I
was wrong!

Bleach! Yeah, *that* is *the* worst chorus that QR ever wrote. They
didn't write GGCTY, but I think that GAL is worse anyway. I have heard
the song and I still dislike it. The ultimate test for me with HITNF was
that I wasn't really moved by the material live either. Not even songs
like You that I liked on the album. Everything just paled in comparison
to the stuff from *every* other album, IMO.

Nah, Dal Bello's stuff isn't too bad. I have a tape of her other songs
and it's kinda like dance pop music, with a few weird things here and
there... She's still alive, doing music, anyhow. Didn't she sing on
Alex Lifeson's solo album?

Dalbello. QR's version is an amazingly faithful cover of Dalbello's,
with the only real difference being Lisa Dalbello sang the original
(Geoff admitted this in interviews when the album came out). Every
single vocal inflection Geoff uses in QR's version (including the
"o-o-so close to you," and the double-tracked voice on "And I'm watching
you") are copies of Lisa's performance. I disagree about this being a
"sucky" chorus; the intent was to convey the thought processes of a very
disturbed and obsessive person, which Lisa's performance does very
well. Geoff obviously agrees with me, because he copied her performance
so closely. :-)

Yes. That album is actually quite good. And she just released a new
album about 3-4 months ago. I have no idea what it is like, though. I
just hear about her once in a while up here in Canada.

I disagree. The content of the song deals with an obsessed male. So, if you
put yourself (so to speak) in his shoes, then you would know how this guy
feels towards this woman. When people are obsessed, thyey tend to do & say
weird, and creepy shit. Not only that This happens to be one of my FAVs from

You shithead. (JK)

Actually, the overriding factor at the time was not the music, but the lyrics.
I just happened to be at a time when they hit too close to home. At least the
way I took them. Now I can just take it as a song.

Here I disagree ... 1st of all the song was meant to have heavy sexual
overtones so I think the chorus fits and secondly, Lisa Dalbello was the
victim of inept management and I believe a major collaborator of her's
died. She released an album last year after being written off by the
music industry.

When I researched who she was and why Queensryche wanted to cover her
song, everything fit. Dalbello is really into the interpersonal twisted
sh*t wth pain interlaced everywhere, also she really pushed the
parameters for female singers in the 80's, much like the legendary Kate
Bush. They were not afraid to be sexual, but instead of the accustomary
passive role .... they really were agressive about it and laid the
foundation for the ladies today: Alannis, Fiona Apple, Meredith Brooks,
Jewel, etc.

I used to think that Dalbello was irrelevant in the music scene and that
her involvement with the Ryche was one of things that may never make
sense. Upon closer inspection, the song and her writing style fit the
band and the album for that matter like a glove. Check out "Black On
Black" by Heart on 'Desire Walks On'. The first time I heard the song, I
was convinced that Geoff had finally collaorbated with the Wilson sisters
....... wrong answer indeed, it was Lisa Dalbello. This really caught my
attention as I thought (erroneously) that I could pick out a Geoff Tate
tune anywhere.

The song could be about an obsessed female. After all, the writer,
Dal Bello, is female... I dig the song too, it's pretty cool live.

Kate is awesome. Great example of masterful lyric beauty.
Very Talented. Some interesting videos as well. I had
The Whole Story video and always loved it. Cloudbusting
