You are absolutely right. Chuck has the right to post his "comments" in
here. Others posting to the NG have as much right to be sick and tired of
his positngs and to lose their minds for a brief moment and write evil mean
spirited postings about his admittedly fictional daily schedule. Or any
other thing that will piss him off as much as he tries to piss everybody
else off. It's our way of dealing with the situation.

I don't know the truth of what happened between him and QR, but I do know
that I'm tired of hearing about it. For all the time that has passed since
the 'incident' he could have collected a bottle a day and been back to even
steven. Instead he whines and preaches to us. He's like gang
violence-nobody likes it, but it's not going away anytime soon....

I write the sniping comments that I write in hopes that someone who is
really offended by what Chuck says about QR, will be able to laugh at him.
It's what Leno does to Clinton. It's what Conan does to, well to everybody.
It's satire, my good man.

If someone on the newsgroup isn't into the occasional 'post-Chuck comment'
satire then... well I will quote you on that one: "If you do not like the
message do not listen!"

Just trying to be entertaining.....

This is a message for Chris Tidwell. You make some very impassioned arguments.
But I feel the need to correct you about a few things:

1. If you have the connections that you say you no doubtly have because of
your vast knowledge of information you need to ask if the Whip got a package
from Chuck that included a video tape, and some money for the coffee that he
was selling. In that package were the reciepts that Chuck was talking about.
Now granted I was not there and there are no copies of the reciepts to my
knowledge but if he recieved the package for the coffee would it not stand to
reason the he got the reciepts also.

2. You say that Chuck is a snail and should crawl out from underneath the rock
from whence he came. But what does that make you? You continue the war of
words with him through e-mail and on the NG. In my opinion, which is worth
what it cost you, that makes you just as bad as him. What do you think that
the people who do not know you think when they read your posts to Chuck? I
have talked to you, I know you are a nice intelligent guy who I just happen to
disagree with. So if you do not like Chuck do not make yourself like him!

3. If Chuck or myself or anyone else wanted to come online and tell QR horror
stories that is our right. As far as I know there is no way to block someone
from a newsgroup. If you do not like the message do not listen! I can tell
you this I am going to be around on here for a long time telling people that I
think the FC is ripping people off.

In the end I hope that this does not start a war between you and I. But, we
were just talking as friends( ala Jerry McGuire). Just something to think
about

This is a statement from Chuck. You are believeing him and hearing only
his side of the story on this one. I see it as maybe it's true, maybe
it's not.

You see here's where the difference lies! First of all, I certainly
welcome anyone who has a QR horror story. It's an interesting (and maybe
in some cases enlightening) thing to hear. However, sometimes it's not
what you say, it's how you say it (or how many times you say it). Chuck
drones on over and over about the same incident that happened so long ago
that it's not even topical anymore. Everyone know the story. And he
comes to this group on the saddest day in Rychean history to make stupid
comments and troll. It's like going to a funeral and yelling out what an
asshole the guy was. It's inappropriate. He doesn't state things in a
nice manner and it's not timely anymore, so he should expect flames. Now
you on the other hand have done things in a respectable manner and many
have listened and some have agreed stongly and others have disagreed
strongly. You can't expect more than that. In fact more that posted have
agree with you. That's because you presented yourself in a respectful
and timely way. If you're not respectful of the people on this group then
you can expect to get flamed. That's a fact.

Yours,

Mike

Interesting points but you're simply not in a position to know what really
happened and what didn't. First, anybody with any business sense would
make copies of everything. Second, if you weren't there then why are you
joining the discussion. If you have FACTS .... no wait, let me repeat this
again .... if you have FACTS to bring to the table then please by all
means present them. You will find me to very amicable to any and all
possibilities.

And about your questioning the degree of my access to this situation ...
has anything I said been untrue? The answer is clearly no, 'nuff said.

And there's one question I've been dying to ask Chuck and I'll pose it to
you as well:

Did Chuck have an agreement with Tina Rose or the Tri-Ryche Corporation?

>
> 2. You say that Chuck is a snail and should crawl out from underneath
the rock

You need to do your homework Scott, when Chuck 1st posted 'Some Rychean Jokes'
I politely asked him to refrain from bringing up stuff that happened back
in the summer of 1996 after Seattle96. He attacked me without provocation
and brought up the same bullshit that he did back then and I challenged
him with the same information I had back in 1996 ..... and he did the same
thing now that he did back then:

when confronted with the cold facts, he bailed.

Now as far as the emails, Chuck was the one who stepped into the email
domain to continue this war and I've saved his messages so if you need to
see them just let me know. It seems that you perceive him to be the victim
of some nefarious plot and that he doesn't have any stains of guilt. Right
... tell me another one. If I have misperceived your motives, then please
let me know so that we can be on the same page. I have never had any
problems with you Scott.

One more item that you need to understand .... when ANYONE slags the band
or levels some accusations against them, I check out the merits of the
case and then make up my own mind. This is exactly what I did with Chuck's
situation, I have friends on both sides of the equation and I investigated
the allegation. I only went to the personal attacks on Chuck AFTER he
continued his baseless allegations and AFTER he started attacking me.
Again, I would encourage you to do some homework and check the Usenet
Archives (DejaNews is an excellent tool) ... you will find what I have
said to be true.

What do you think that
> the people who do not know you think when they read your posts to Chuck? I
> have talked to you, I know you are a nice intelligent guy who I just happen to

Well .... I have faith in everyone's abilities to draw their own
conclusions after presented with the facts in a given situation. That's
what I did back in 1996 and that's what I have done again. Hell, I
practicaly begged Chuck to bring some facts to the table so everyone in
the ng could make up their own mind back in '96. He didn't and after I
challenged him with sending the stuff certified mail, he fell off the face
of the ng.

The difference between Chuck and myself in this instance is that he
started the war and he continued bringing the same baseless accusations
and I felt compelled to respond in a vigorours manner and I feel that I
defended myself well.

> 3. If Chuck or myself or anyone else wanted to come online and tell QR horror

Sure he has the right to post whatever he wants to, more power to him
..... BUT DOES THIS RIGHT VALIDIFY THE ACCUSATIONS THAT HE IS PRESENTING?
Hell no.

So what you're telling me is that if Chuck or Joe from Omaha or Sam from
Birmingham levels serious allegations against the band or anyone for that
matter .... I'm supposed to let it go when I have evidence to the
contrary???? Is that what you're really asking me to do? If so, I can't do
it on a matter of principle.

I can tell
> you this I am going to be around on here for a long time telling people that I
> think the FC is ripping people off.
>

Shazam! I agree ... but does the band run the fanclub, or they in
management positions? NO!!! The FC and the Band are two different entities
... although I am starting to believe that some members of the FC think
they are one in the same.

> In the end I hope that this does not start a war between you and I. But, we

Scott, i have never had any problems with you or 99.9% of the folks in the
ng. But please understand, if someone slags the band with allegations that
haven't been proven or have been disproven then i ask you, please
understand that I am a patient person but when the madness continues I
will feel compelled to respond.

Reading the "Chuck VS QR" story....AGAIN...

One question...

ARE ANY OF YOU PEOPLE DEFENDING THE BAND, AND/OR THE FANCLUB...EMPIRE
MEMBERS? IF SO, BEWARE...YOU CAN, AND WILL BE KICKED OUT OF YOUR EMPIRE
FOR DEFENDING THE BAND/FANCLUB!

CHECK THE EDITION OF THE DIGITAL EMPIRE, WHERE I WAS KICKED OUT FOR
DOING JUST THAT! (Don't worry, it won't happen again!) <middle arm

Now this is interesting. Would you care to explain the above story. Seems there's a lot of stuff

Chris T. states: >>The problem is, did Chuck have an agreement with Tina Rose
or theTri-Ryche Corporation? The answer is the former.<<

I received a call from Michael Wilton whom asked me to publish my
already-in-existance fanzine for the fan club officially, therefore THE BAND
ASKED ME not Tina!
The checks I did receive were from the Tri Ryche Corporation, signed by Tina,
therefore all is tied together. Michael told me himself to keep receipts and
that he would see to it that I was reimbursed.
Geoff's sis whom he removed from fan club doings for her misdeeds? Another
third party? You need to report your sources for it to be any more than rumors,
cited, hard facts.

Chris went on to post: >>Interesting points but you're simply not in a position

Live by your own words, Mr. Tidwell. I trusted them, we had a verbal agreement
and I had no reason to distrust them (AND HONESTLY PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES
MOST FANS WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING!), now I do. Wilton received a package
from me with the receipts, videos and some cash for a coffee order. He
acknowledges receiving the latter two, but denies the receipts were in there.
He asked me if I had made copies, I told him no, he said basically "Sorry for
ya". Poorer but wiser, yes. Will I get it all back in spades, YES!
I ceased publication of the TRT with the second official one I did for the
band. When I left the QRFC, and I left, I was not fired or replaced, I did so
becuase of this theft of my money.
>>I'll pose it in the form of a question "Would you like to pay for something
that you didn't order?" This is a business and their means of supporting their
families, I think having said this everyone can keep it in context.>>

Ya wanna check and see how good they are at paying up. call Drinkard Litho in
Greenwood, SC, whom printed the TRT and ask them how they had to wait for the
money and then the fan club told them to bill me for THEIR FUCKING MAGAZINE!
Again, get it straight. Michael called them and told the printers to bill the
balance of the fan club magazine to me.

>>>... and brought up the same bullshit that he did back then and I challenged

him with the same information I had back in 1996 ..... and he did the same

I will never bail, I have an extrememly good position for a great band, I
cannot monitor this shit all the time, you see what you want to see, but your
view is distorted with misinformation and lies from uncited
sources....suspicious to me!
You Chris need to do the homework, my advice: keep on studying medicine or
whatever and leave the journalism to us.
You do not publish, including posting on the internet, something when you are
"seeking" the truth. You get the truth, hard evidence, then post! Without
firsthand, solid evidence, you are doing nothing more than online, secondhand
gossip. If they want to repond, let them do so, but they are mum because they
know I speak the truth.

The fanclub is run by the band, or at least that is the line they are
pushing....so are they lying. Ziggy is Geoff's wife Susan. Yes, I went
ballistic when they (Amy Cuffel and her husband, geoff's sis and brother in
law) attacked me on AOL, I responded in kind by knowing what account it was
coming from after they lied and denied saying the slagging posts were not from
them. I posted their account info to refute it. They were mad, but I exposed it
for what it was.....a personal attack on me and I beat 'em at it, they could
not stand that.

As long as you and people like that lowlife scumbag Mike McCaa continue to
challenge me, I will beat you at your own game. Or, you can admit that you were
not involved and cannot swear in court to what has transpired and therefore you
have only hearsay eveidence. You are just operating on what you THINK to be
true. I KNOW the facts as I was involved, YOU WERE NOT.
The truth is I would have quit the QR thing when this opportunity to do what I
am now doing presented itself anyway, but thanks to dishonesty and outright
thieving I left a bit earlier.
You have to ask these things:
*Would Chuck leave a great thing?
*Why would a hard core fan for many years who thought enough of the band to
start a fanzine suddenly distrust and want to slag them? He MUST have a
reason.
*Why does Chris post things he hears second hand and no offical response has
ever been given? Why does he feel the need to risk looking like a fool, and
often succeeds, to defend someone and something of ewhich he knows nothing
about on a first hand basis?

If you want a war, to continue this little flamefest, I will continue to deal
it out, .........come play my game I'll test ya.
Or, as I stated you can admit that you are not a party directly involved and
stay the FUCK out of it!

False

False again ... the TRC bought the FC from Tina ... so what you're saying
is the TRC bought the FC from the TRC, makes alot of sense.

Michael told me himself to keep receipts and

again this has never been proven, it's the word of a raving lunatic

Everyone please note, this was a PRIVATE email between Scott and me and
Chuck being the king of decorum posted it online .... nice touch you
loser.

Gee, Chuck you've demonstrated a high level of unstability ... why would
ANYONE believe you over someone who's in the business since '81? And you
didn't make copies .... boy what a nice excuse for you to hide behind.

Poorer but wiser, yes. Will I get it all back in spades, YES!

Yeah .... delivered upside your head and ass.

False .... you never had a contract asshole. Gee, since you are clearly
the fucking rocket scientist, why don't you take the band to court? Oh
that's right, you would much rather bitch, banter and get your ass kicked
on the ng. Clever boy.

Again this is a delusion in Chuck's mind ... I would love to see HARD
evidence. Gee, Chuck everyone has been begging you to bring more to the

You are so full of shit on all counts asshole .. you were the one who took

Poor Chuck career-envy .... sadly for you, my medical education is going
acording to plan and I will graduate and guess what? I will have a life
... unlike you.

I resorted to your lowest of levels when facts, reason and logic failed.
Chuck, you're kinda like that bad dog down the block .... when he comes up
and tries to bite your leg, you have to beat him so severely that he will
never even think of coming near you again. Metaphors aside, that's what's
happening now with you.

The reason chuck isn't in an Empire horror story is because he was a memory
by the time they were installed.

a recurring memory, but a memory just the same.

If they don't care why would they be giving Chris some of his information.(
Assuming thatThose are his Rychean sources.)

Second, would it not make sense to get rid of a problem and talk about it?
"Yes we had this problem with Chuck this is what happened" Then get rid of
him! That is hard to do with a lie.

Again, you're taking the thread out of context and trying to apply it to a
whole different model. You have no prior knowledge of how I conduct myself

blanket assertions. Good for you Catfish (read: bottom-feeder), you've

I have never stated that the band were my sources. Check the Archives.
Also in the same token in an effort to confirm the veracity of my

happened.

I've been meaning to ask you this ? Scott: given Chuck's tenacity and
passion for setting the record straight ...... why hasn't any tried to
take this case to its proper forum, the courts?

Can we please rename this thread? I didn't attack Chuck until after he
went after me on the personal level. And please don't confuse boredom with
admitting defeat ..... it's impossible for either one of us to prove our
case in this forum and the namefest had grown old.

I put the issues on the table that I knew to be true and Chuck did the
same, in the end everyone has to make up their own mind. Given the choice
of doing anything else (including studying for Histology) and continuing
this banter with Chuck and HR ..... I'm headed up to the histo lab as soon
as I hit the "Send" button.

OWW!!! That hurt, Christopher William Tidwell III. In a free society we
should not segregate by virtue of position on the food chain!! I'm really
shocked at your prejudice!

These threads are so much fun! There's always some bonehead like Chris

any subject which may shed bad light on their hero. Just a suggestion,
Chris: If you truly are a Med student (which I stll can't believe, due to
your demeanor), you should quit wasting time worrying about someone
slandering your hero (if it truly is slander, which I doubt), and
concentrate on your schooling. Your profs aren't going to test you on QR
trivia!! We all love QR, or else we wouldnt be here, but get a life

Okay, back to reality for a moment here....I just want to
clear up a little misconception in Robyn's post. First of
all, I am going to infer that she is referring to the edition
of the Q (not the Digital Empire....there is only one edition
of the DE). I will repeat it again:

Robyn Hoover was removed from the Digital Empire
because she violated AOL TOS rules on two occasions
by her own admission (I have your posts to the AOL
folder where you admit that you had TOS warnings on
your account.). The DE rules clearly state that you must
follow the AOL Terms of Service (TOS).

Well, that is how Tidwell operates, he believes he is superior to me and
others, yourself included. He knows nothing about this entire mess, he spouts
off about sources whom he cannot name, etc.

If I were lying the band would either make a statement or sue me, they will
not. They know I am right.

The people he named have all been removed by the band: Sharon-gone, Amy-gone,
etc. I quit long before any of them were placed there.

Tidwell is playing the toadie, a clueless one at that. I hope he can make half
as much as I am when he graduates from "med school". But I doubt it. But I do
not think I am above or beneath anyone, janitors included. My uncle happens to

Uh... might as well throw this in for anyone who thinks
AOL TOS is an old brand of UNIX computer, or a really cool
book by Anne Rice:

AOL TOS (Terms of Services) rules are not created, or
enforced, by the Digital Empire. They're created, and
enforced, by AOL, and are part of the contract which
exists between AOL and each user. They forbid, among
other things, spamming and harassment.

I don't know the specifics (or want to) but if someone
violates AOL's rules, they get *kicked off AOL*, and if
I recall correctly, the Digital Empire is open only to
AOL members (making it kind of hard to remain a member
if you've gotten kicked off AOL).

Hope this helps, or at least serves as food for thought.

I agree that it would be better if Chuck and band would talk about it. The
point I'm trying to make is that no one here can really do anything about what
happened between them. I'm just tired of the whole thing because it can't be
solved here, so I guess I don't see the point in discussing it here.
I don't know who Chris's sources are, but if they are the band then I think
they are handling it incorrectly. The band and Chuck should just sit down and
talk it out. Most problems can be solved this way. What is happening here is
that people whocan't change the situation are getting involved and it's
degenerated into a pissing contest of who can say the sickest meanest shit to
who.
I salute both sides for defending their positions, but take it to private
e-mail messages. I think this is going to be one of those issues like abortion.
You're either in favor of it, against it, or apathetic, and no matter what is
said no one's mind ever changes. The debate just goes on and people get their
feelings hurt.

Again, I have never stated that the band are my sources ... only folks
close to the entire situation on both sides of the equation .... but I'll
ask the same question again: Has anything I asserted been proven untrue?
No.

Given Chuck's absolute tenacity with this situation, one would think that
he would have taken it to the legal arena .... wouldn't you? A contract is
a contract right? ..... but what if there never was one, then what?

As far as getting rid of him .... how can you get rid of somebody who
never was part of the Corporation? A legal question to be sure and
wouldn't it be more constructive for Chuck to pursure this in the legal
arena? If he was (and for the moment I'll take the position that he was)
royally screwed out of $3k, don't you think he would be in the courts so
fast that the draft would hit Seattle?

My best friend is a lawyer and I asked him about contracts and this one
case in particular. He said that this is a very simple case and could be
litigated in less than 2 days ... the facts aren't that complex ....
a contract is a contract is a contract, right?

> I salute both sides for defending their positions, but take it to private
> e-mail messages.

I agree 100% and suggested that a few days ago ... some felt compelled to
label my suggestion as my quitting or conceding to Chuck. Hardly .... for
me it was a cost/return ration question, I stated the facts as I knew them
to be and encouraged everyone to make up their own mind. The personal
stuff/attacks? They usually follow when reason fails and they did.

In the end, the sun rose the next day and life goes on. I encourage Chuck
openly in this ng to pursure his case if he does indeed have one.

I will publicly apologize to him if he can prove his case in a court of
law .... we live in a civil society and settling cases like this in a
reasonable manner is the function of our legal system. If the band did
screw him out of $3k, then they have lost this fan.

Several folks have told me the same set of facts, they don't want their
names drudged through this mess. I don't mind being a conduit for
lightning .... what bothered me originally was Chuck choosing to slam the
band in this forum where their are no checks/balances instead of the legal
arena.

I would love to see this matter resolved.

Chris (and anyone else who cares to read),
I will lay it out for you, truthfully, simply and concisely.

There was no contract, my favorite band at the time saw my fanzine which i sent
with a letter saying that I do this zine and the FC ( I joined in 1988) could
do something like it. Wilton called me, and Scurlock about the same time, and
asked us to be a part of this FC thing. I agreed. No contract, just an
agreement of me doing it for the FC and an undertsnding and his word that my
expenses would be reimbursed. I think most fans put in the same position would
do the same, they would be glad to do it, a contract would not cross their
mind.

* Wilton called me, asked me to do TRT for them.

* Tina manged the FC under the sometimes eye of Wilton, as a part of the Tri
ryche Corp.

* rather than do a color copy fanzine which was not cost effective, nor high
quality, we decided to do a four color seperation, full bleed production for
professional quality printing. I needed a few upgrades for computer to run this
type of program (Clariswork didn't cut it :))

* I was told to get what i needed and that it would be reimbursed. This was
told to me by Wilton.

* I sent all my receipts (Fed Ex, mailings, computer upgrades, etc) to Wilton
with the cash for a coffee order and the videos of PL shows I had that he
wanted.

* He said when we talked next that he received the cash, the videos but that
the receipts were not there. he stipulated that the box was unharmed and
unopened.

*I asked him what that meant, he asked me if I made copies of the receipts, I
had not. Again most people in my position would have trusted all to be well, I
had no inkling that something like this would occur.

* Wilton said without reciepts, he could do nothing. I was very upset because I
KNOW that the receipts were sent in there and if it was undamaged as he
admitted, the receipts were not lost. I refused to do any more work on the
third magazine until I was reimbursed for my expenses thus far. They even told
the printing company to bill ME for the last mag!

* About that time, a war erupted with Sharon and Helen, later involving Amy who
had no business involved in this matter and began bad mouthing me.

* Phone conversations are not recorded, except for Tate's messages to me. No
contract, verbal agreement. No legal case, I looked into it, believe me, if I
had solid legal proof I would have taken action. Naive fan taken to cleaners.

You must admit Chris, that you cannot testify to anything in this matter. I
have experienced it firsthand. I know. Wilton knows. Tate knows.
You know only what people have told you.

Does it logically follow that a fan excited about the chance to do what he
dreamed of with his favorite band suddenly quit and become a sworn enemy
without SERIOUS provocasion? No.

If you calm down and rationalize all of this, it will make sense, put yourself
in my shoes.

I know I will never get the money now, I am not for one second expecting them
to do the right thing. I now want to expose them for what they are (not
all...Chris, Scott and ed bass are great!)...thieves!

I do not know how much simpler I can make it.

Fan does magazine
band Likes magazine
Band calls fan
Fan asked to do same thing for them offically.
fan is thrilled
fan told he would have expenses recouped
fan incurrs about $2800 in expenses
fan sends receipts to guitarist at his home in redmond
Guitarist gets everything else, but claims no receipts
Guitarist says "sorry"
fan out money and qits production until he gets his money
people near the band jump in and verbally attack fan
fan responds in kind and swears to tell all
end of line..........

I never asked to be paid for it, god knows I am okay financially, even more so
now! But I did want to be treated fairly and honestly.
If you or anyone else cannot understand this, then I truly cannot argue with
someone who cannot comprehend a very simple situation.

Flight cancelled due to ice, flying out tomorrow...lalalala la bamba!
Chuck:)

yes, thats very true let me clarify the TOS a little more for you non AOLers
out there.

AOLs terms of service are extremely vague. In fact, if you write to AOL and
request a list of words which are unacceptable to use online, they will NOT
release that information to you. If they will not outline specifics, then
interpretation is free and any online communication can be open to being issued
a tos warning.
Harassment on AOL is a joke. People claim harassment every time someone doesnt
agree with them or thier ideas are shot down. Many times the TOS are used by
AOLers as a means of revenge towards any one who doesnt agree with thier point
of view.

For my taste, the TOS are far to vague to be included in the Digital Empires
code of conduct. I hope this thread is helpful to the DE in further improving
their empire. =)

Of course they do. Nice statement... but means 0. Nothing.
Um they used to be actually called Opinion Polls.

Is it really some major realization on Dr. Sowell's part
that polls are based on opinion and nothing more?
Or is just stating the OBVIOUS what he intended???
Am I missing something?

Since when has opinion been held to the same standard as
actual knowledge? I try not to confuse them most of
the time. It seems Dr. Sowell has a problem distinguishing
between the two?

In regards to what is usually the subject matter for
OPINION polls... Who gives a shit what anyone "knows?"
It's OPINION not gospel.

God sorry Chris for the rant, but this is such elitist crap IMO.
Polls, Opinions, Ratings, whatever you call them are not intended
to find facts. They are intended to garner OPINION!!!
And opinions are just that... nothing more. Say 1000 people are polled
and they all say HITNF sucks. What the hell does that mean? That it
actually sucks? What is there to "know," that makes this "opinion"
more credible?

Amazed...

Please, this idea that what people think(opinion) is lame and what
people know is "a better thing," is silly in the context of...
freakin' OPINION POLLS <<<<<<<<< LOL!!!!!!

I have read much of Sowell's comments, on everything
from Activists to Wisdom. His idea that ownership
of "property" is the best way to eliminate "pollution"
or some negative effect on the environment is naive to
say the least. But that is another post.

I never said that Sowell was an intellectual lol!
Do you think he an intellectual?

Hmmm maybe you should read his comments on "Intellectuals?"

As for "elitist," I made my case quite clearly. I flamed no one,
especially Chris T who's posts and wealth of QR knowledge I ENJOY!
The fact Chris sent me a taped interview tells me much
about his character :)

PS - Sowell's comments are often very simplistic and
naive in their scope, see but this is JMO! (subjective)
But his political alignment is pretty obvious.

Again to Chris T. my disagreeing with Sowell's grasp of
the OBVIOUS was not intended to insult you. I am sorry
if it did :)

Great question Collin....

My whole take is that Synth has a good point...but for the most part I

they just reflect the opinions of those polled.

You know Puff...I was going stay out of this whole slag fest but I must
tell you that you are talking out you ass when you call Chris a "snot

Chris personally and you are basing your assesment of his character on few

Here's my take on the whole thing (the quote). I think the quote is very
true actually. The problem lies with Chris' use of it. I've been on this
ng long enough to make the assumption that Chris uses it to belittle his
enemies. I mean elitist in the sense that "I'm more intelligent than you,
so your opinions are nonsense." I'm sure that this isn't the meaning Sowell
intended. It's how Chris uses it that is irritating. I could be wrong
about this (after all, it is an assumption), but seeing how Chris likes to
attack everyone he disagrees with, I doubt it.

Hope this clarifies my stance on Sowell.

Chris is a jerk. I've been on this ng plenty long enough and have read
enough of his antagonistic posts to deduce this. Nothing you or anyone else
says is going to convince me of otherwise. Sure, I've read some of his

know a lot about the band. However, anytime someone disagrees with him, or
sheds bad light on any one of his heroes, the "spoiled brat" in him comes
out, and he always resorts to this, "I'm above you" crap. If you like him,
good for you; I'm not slinging mud at you for that. However, when he

Bingo!!!!!!!! Phil wins the 6-pack of Samuel Adams. Dr. Sowell was using
this quote to illustrate that many folks have the attention span of a
sparrow and when they see "polls" on TV they think that they are the
gospel truth ...... wrong answer indeed.

If anything, Dr. Sowell encourages everyone to think for themselves (boy
where have we heard that before??????? ....... maybe Anybody Listening?)
and he is the one who is slamming the elitists.

He absolutely abhors elitists and liberals in particular who think that
since they have superior moral character and they feel our pain, then they
must know what's best for the country.

> As far as being Elitist....well I just don't agree.

This is funny ..... Dr. Thomas Sowell being called an elitist, that's akin
to calling the sunrise a sunset ... in that it's the furthest thing from
the truth. I would encourage everyone to go to their local bookstore and
read the first chapter of his book "Visions of The Annoited:
Self-Congratulation As A Basis For Social Policy". It's only about 10
pages and shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. This will clear up any
misconceptions regarding his being an elitist.

The man is a staunch conservative and is absolutely brilliant. He went to
Columbia, Harvard, Cal-Berkely for his educational training. He is a
Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University ..... but
then again, those schools are no match for the mighty Western Washington
University so Catfish can go on slagging somebody else he doesn't know in
addition to me.

As you know Synth and literally hundreds of others users on this ng, I

Chuck and I have reached an understanding, we agree to disagree and have

Yeah he's a staunch conservative, someone who made it based on his merits

that it even matters), Dr. Sowell is black (he abhors the use of the term

Sure :) and I e-mailed you in regards to this post,

In all fairness to my comments um this is
quite a stretch :) I don't get the jump from
his comment on "polls" to all of this? I think
you are reading more into a very straight forward
post I wrote. And to answer your question, one that
I did not remotely contribute to...
This does not make Sowell an elitist :)

Chris, I never said Sowell was an "elitist." I never
mentioned "self-reliance, small govt., and capitalism."
What I responded to was the poll quote, and posted
very clearly how Sowell's stating the "obvious" was silly
and an "elitist comment," or "elitist crap."
You disagree :) That's cool :)

Again, I am VERY familiar with Dr. Sowell's ideas and
opinions and given that context, the statement is obvious
to me in it's intent, you read it differently.

You mentioned "staunch conservative," well I have read
Bob Dornan's opinions and comments as well and when I had
tv, I actually watched many of his "speeches" given to an
empty House, I listened to Rush L. for almost 3 years
every morning. "Staunch conservative," would apply to
both of these examples as well, so if that label is
meant to be some defining thing? I am at a loss as to
specifically what?

I consider myself well versed in the ideas, comments and
opinions of both sides of the political spectrum, I make
a very deliberate point to DO so :), and in the context of that
...the comment on polls is elitist, obvious and silly IMO<<<<<<<.

Please don't bring up the man's character or accomplishments
as if I had insulted them. I said NOTHING to impune them. I was
responding to his idea(s). Enough said :)

Actually in its proper context, Dr. Sowell was amazed and saddened that so
many people rely on the 6 o'clock news for their information and he was
trying to make a point that polls are just that ... polls, not
information.

Again, I mentioned his credentials and political philsophies as an
informatory mechanism for those in the ng unfamiliar with his work. I was
providing background info. of Dr. Sowell .... this was not aimed at you by
any means,as you are well-versed with his works.

Synth, I don't think I said that you were doing any of those things. I was
providing some information about Dr. Sowell for the users of the ng ...
just trying to Speak the word, ie, sharing of information and ideas.

You comments are well-recieved and duly noted and in the same vein, take a
minute and re-read my posts .... I believe (and if I'm mistaken I
apologize) that I never said "Synth, I can't believe you are attacking the
man's character ... this is where he came from, what to school, etc. I was

brilliant Political Scientists in our society (IMHO).

p.s. - looking forward to those discussions Synth .... I consider myself a
disciple of Sowell's and the discussions should be epic :-)

Little? Hmm .... I bench press 365 lbs, does little still apply?

Spoiled? Hmm ... Catfish did your parents claim you as a dependent on
their tax returns last year? Mine haven't since I left home at the age of
17.

Punk? Hmmm ... coming from you that's a badge of honor I will wear
proudly.

The fact is shit-for-brains that you don't know a damn thing about me and
your assumptions are way off-base. The next time I'm in Seattle let's meet
for a beer (you are old enough to drink, right?) and you can see for your
self just how little I actually am.

I'm planning on updating my webpage soon and I'll be sure to create a new
section of me in the gym with my buddies pumping some iron .... hell,
I'll even create a QuickTime movie for you Catfish as I press 275 lbs 8
times, so you can reassess your assumption that I'm little.

funny, Chris comes across the same way in my eyes. Besides, take some fucking

And that's not an elitist comment? Gee I am
pretty sure that's the way I interpreted it to begin
with Chris. Anyway, you assert that Sowell seems to think
"many folks have the attention span of a sparrow." Ok?
I think I pretty much nailed that one lol!

> many folks have the attention span of a sparrow

Many? Given our current population that would
be a lot right? Many doesn't = few, does it?. It usually is
used to allude to a majority. It avoids the foolishness
of being an "absolute," but tends to come across in a similar
way. Maybe Dr. Sowell's quote would have been more fun if he
had just said what you say he meant- "many folks have the attention
span of a sparrow." Do you know what that might imply about "many
folks."
I bet we have heard the saying, "bird brain" before huh?

> Dr. Sowell was using
> this quote to illustrate that many folks have the attention span of a
> sparrow

Well based on your knowledge of the man I will accept
your interpretation, but I am sorry how would you describe
such a comment?

A compliment? Non-pompous? Non-judgmental? Not a major generalization?
Non-elitist, Brilliant? See I might be the "folks" Chris and
I talk to my fellow "folks" everyday from my little corner of the
world and I think what I originally took issue with in regards to
Sowell's quote was right on target :)

Please be aware of the fact I NEVER called Sowell an elitist.
Just the comment :) And your disciple-ish interpretation ;) of what
Sowell's quote "illustrates" does seem to make my case.
Please explain to me if I am missing something. :)

> and when they see "polls" on TV they think that they are the
> gospel truth ...... wrong answer indeed.

They? Who's "they," the toothless whitetrash that never
made it past 6th grade and married their sister? <sarcasm> ;)
Come on Chris, the "folks" I see and talk to everyday don't
have the "attention" span's of sparrows or confuse "polls"
for truth. They may have jobs, mortgagaes, 2.5 kids, bills,
school meetings, etc. but damn they aren't drooling all over
themselves! Geezus.

Hmmm anyway the sparrow thing..., that sure isn't a COMPLIMENT is it?
Look, I can only speak in regards to who I KNOW, not who I THINK I KNOW.
Maybe Dr. Sowell should try it? Look, I don't know Sowell, just
commented
on one of his quotes. Generally, I try to avoid massive demeaning
generalizations
of "folks" or the "american people." :) I called his quote elitist,
and I still think when you strip away all the rest, it is just that :)
Guess we disagree.

> If anything, Dr. Sowell encourages everyone to think for themselves (boy
> where have we heard that before??????? ....... maybe Anybody Listening?)
> and he is the one who is slamming the elitists.

Really?

"Anybody Listening," IMO has little to do with Sowell's
obvious right wing staunch conservative perspective my friend
please don't politicize my favorite all time QR song. :)

> He absolutely abhors elitists and liberals in particular

Ah yes the "liberals." Yes that is obvious.
Funny, I don't "abhor" any one really, let alone groups of people,
not conservatives, liberals, eskimos, mormons, lesbians, fly fisherman,
fast food workers, lol, whatever...

See IMHO one can't make sweeping generalizations, or
"abhor a diverse group of people" like that and be taken very
seriously. Sure it's happened lots of times, but
I'll spare you the history lesson :)

abhor: to consider with horror or disgust: loathe

Not a very nice word is it? Oh well :)

I wonder how many "idiots" would "abhor" QR listeners
as well. Pot smoking, jobless, long haired, etc. Isn't that
shit silly? See that kind of "abhoring" of an entire group of
people is not "brilliant." Far from it Chris.
But again, that's just my opinion :)

> who think that since they have superior moral character
> and they feel our pain,

Superior moral character? Haha I have no idea what that means.
But this is just cliched political rhetoric, and when it
comes from EITHER side it always sounds just as silly.

> then they must know what's best for the country.

Oh come on... this is really getting into another realm
here and if it is going to become some right-wing
sing-along then please count me out.

HEY...THIS IS A NEW ONE!
Once again...I am having to dredge up this BORING ole story...I wish

Below is the "Q" where Tammy (or was that Jai?) decided to inform
everyone, except the people mentioned, that we were kicked out. I
can't speak for anyone else on the list, but as far as I'm concerned, it
was total bullshit. Plus there is NO mention of TOS violations following
my name. Please notice the date of this edition of the "Q"!

QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
The Digital Empire's Q November 1997
QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
It's certainly been a long time since we've seen one of these, hasn't
it? I haven't been inspired enough to write anything Rychean lately
(and unfortunately, I'm still not). But I just wanted to let everyone
know that the Digital Empire is still alive and operating as usual. And
if you're receiving this, it means you are still part of the DE. LOL I
know some people have been wondering if they had been somehow eliminated
from the DE: the answer is no. :-)

I guess I do need to explain something right here about your
involvement in the DE. The Campaign and the Empire Liaison have told us
that we do not have to have people in the Empire whom we feel
uncomfortable by their presence in the Empire. This is a decision made
by the Officers of the Empire. We, the Officers of the DE, have
unfortunately been forced to remove four people from the Digital
Empire. These all happened over six months ago, however. People who
have been removed because of bouncing email addresses we have no choice
over, of course. We felt it appropriate at this time to inform the
other
members of the DE who had been removed and why they had been removed.

1. Lisa Ricco - personal conflict with another DE member, causing the
other DE member to leave the DE. This person has since returned to the
DE.

2. Robyn Hoover - personal conflict with another DE member....okay, so
that other member would be me. By fanning the flames of Chuck
Anderson's argument with the band, we felt she was causing detriment to
the Campaign. It is our opinion, as it states in our Contracts with the
Empire Liaison, that to continually disagree over a negativity involving
the Campaign, the Band or the Empires is the same as the person stating
the negative opinion. It's like pouring salt into an open wound....it
only makes it worse and disallows the healing process.
3. Elizabeth Letchworth - threats of bodily harm to one or more
members of the DE.
4. Chuck Anderson - vandalism against one or more members of the DE.
We wanted to clear the record about participation in the DE. Basically,
we don't like it when you threaten or actually physically harm another
member of the DE. We aren't trying to make this Nazi-like but some
common courtesy to your fellow DE members, or to any Empire members, is
sensible. Freedom of speech is not the issue here; attempting to force
other people to accept your opinion as the only correct opinion is.
Remember the Golden Rule:

DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.

(or something like that....LOL)

not intended to be Fucky...it was something totally different. But, I
decided not to persue it...and take my licks.

The loud1 person was believed to be Chuck. This was posted in the Sea

Why are you here?)
and not make mention of the fact that another Queensryche folder
exists? (Did that in Sept.)

Everyone here wants the best of both worlds I guess. Is that fair to
all Queensryche fans? Is this a special society here? Is everyone here
better than the rest of the fans over at the other folder?

Seems pretty two-faced to me. But then again, what do I know? I'm
nobody....(Are YOU the two faced expert?)

Dear Loud.
The first of September (when this board was created) the main subjects
in the MMC folder were: Other bands that Queensryche members might
comfortable be placed into and Interpretations of Queensryche songs. No
flame wars, no one "running" out of there! No one is hiding either!
>From what/who? Nobody that I know of is hiding, and if they were...why
would they pick another Queensryche folder? If I were going to hide
from and 'invite' people to hide with me, don't you think I could have
named this board something like, Flaming ALT., or *Ucky Troll Scum....or
anything non Queensryche related? My first priority on AOL is to
promote Queensryche in a possitive, upbeat and appealing manner! That
is why I put up a web page and that is the reason for this particular
folder. I surf the web alot, (most people here know this) and I like to
share things that I find interesting. And on occasions.....I surf AOL,
that is how I found Sea People (Seattle Digital City). There was
nothing deceptive or evasive about it. I have become a little more AOL
savy in the past 5 months, I now know the type of people that I like to
be associated with, and those that I do not. This is not said as a slam
or a flame, just my preference, which I am entitled to as long as I am
paying this AOL bill. I still look into the MMC, but I must say that on
a few peoples post, I only read the first few lines and fast forward
through the rest of their post. Only because it is just more of the
same! I did not spend $2300.00 on a computer plus an ungodly AOL
monthly bill to constantly read someone elses point of view. Especially
when it is a point of view that I do not agree with. Sure, I could
spend alot of time, money and stress quibbling back and forth, but why?
They are not going to change my opinion and I'm not going to change
theirs. Meanwhile, the bystanders are getting angry or bored, and
finding somewhere else to spend their AOL time and money! The people
that visit this folder apparently like the friendly, family type
atmosphere or they would not have came back! For people who like the
constant conflict and seemingly endless, useless debates.....there is
the MMC. Or open another board right here in Sea People. I choose to
make Sea People my priority board! I leave it with a good, happy to
have been there feeling! Page 2...(I know!)

Hehehe.....yup, that's the bad Robyn. Ya know..the one that steals
candy from babies..and so on! ROFL Actually, I was accused of masking
a word: "*Ucky" AOL and their dirty little minds thought I was masking
Fucky (is that even a word?), but it wasn't...not even close. Everyone
around the AOL Queensrÿche board around the time (Nov. 1996) knew what I
meant. It was when the first round of "Chucky" wars began. Don't get me
wrong, I'm not about to jump into the middle of the current "Chuck war"!
Chuck and I have (how shall I put this) come to an understanding. I
have witness my own *hell* with the people associated with the fanclub,
and so..I'm not so sure (anymore) that Chuck is lying. I don't know,
therefore...I'm staying out of it. Let 'em (the fanclub/empires/band)
fight their own battles! I can sympathize with Chuck in a way..that I
know what it feels like to be wronged, and the only response that you
get from your *so called* fellow Rÿchers is: "Shut up, we are tired of
hearing about it".

That's all I care to say about this...for now. It will all come out,
eventually! I have faith :)

Take care!

ROFL really HARD!!

You all want to hear something really funny? I was just looking over my
signed contract with the Digital Empire, and I didn't even sign it until
November 18, 1996. Therefore was not an (official-a word *they* like to
throw around often) officer...or even an (official) member when said TOS
violations occured (11-5-96).

Hmmm.....wonder if they will do the right thing, and apologize for their
error? Me thinks...NOT!

WOW, Christmas in Feb.!! :)
I wonder what the NEXT (mind)crime committed by me will be?

Wondering ... if referring to a band member as *loop-ie* is breaking the
contract of the Empires? Hmmmm....Nit-pic-nit-pic! LOL

I agree FUEL, that's why I luv this newsgroup! But, when certain
members of the fanclub decide they want you gone...they will find
something to USE against you. The DE hasn't really done ANYTHING for
quite a while. Until that nasty November "Q" which sole purpose was to
kick people out. It's quite a shame....

Huh? I've seen his quote numerous times when he posted on the NG and
wasn't involved in any flame wars. Maybe you're assuming too much.
Relax,
it's just a quote.

I've disagreed with Chris before and he has never attacked me.

This is what I would have liked to have seen from you 18 months ago Chuck.
Instead of your other tactics. And before you yell at me that I'm not
involved.....you are right I'm not involved. It's just that a letter such as
the one that you have written here is devoid of the hate and venom that you
sometimes write. This letter has much more of a chance of getting thought
about as a possible true account. (I say possible, because I will never know
the truth-I wasn't there.)

I have an idea. Why don't you call Judge Judy. Seriously!! Her rulings are
binding. Think how many of us will tune in to see you and Wilton battle it
out on Nat'l syndicated TV!!! LOL

I'll echo everyone else's sentiments. I hope you get this resolved. And if
you are unable to get it resolved, I hope you can get past it without any
malice.

Lastly, I'm not going to be writing anymore of my childish funny
responses(even though LOTS of people wrote me and told me they liked them)
to you even if you do at some point take another dump in this ng.

Good luck with the Irish

For some reason, in article <34de1...@news.one.net>
"Richard Ansara" <qry...@one.net> let themselves be put on record as saying:

hehe...hopefully, you're kidding. If not, you didn't read far enough into the post.
TOS stands for Terms Of Service. <<stepping up onto soapbox>> It's AOL's
own little censorship program. AOL's intentions are theoretically noble in that
they say they intend to promote a "safe" online "community". Their actual
motivation is probably more financial (not wanting to get sued, wanting to get
money from newbies or parents who think that their kids would be corrupted
by the real net, etc.). Plus AOL lets you to fill out these little profile thingies
that list all sorts of personal information, and then makes them available to
other AOL'ers. This just makes things worse, because like in the real world
there are people there who can try to use personal information against you.
So they had to come up with more TOS just to handle if people try to use
the information, etc. So, all in all, any one who wants any modicum of privacy
really should get a real net account and never post to any newsgroup or web
chat, and never send email. Of course this is extreme, but there are no
guarantees in life and even fewer on the internet. Of course, this entire post
probably makes little sense because it's being composed at 4:00 in the morning
while taking a little break from some server maintenance. Hopefully the real
intent can be extracted though ;^) <<stepping off soapbox>>

Actual results may vary,

Of course, I'll try to get it scanned by this weekend so we can start
discussing it next week.

Here's some information that may help others track the book down:

Vision of The Anoited

opinion I happen to.

If that is true, cool. I guess I'm going to need that chapter emailed also so
I can participate on an informed level. When Capitalism vs. Marxism was big
(you know the Reagan years) I read Das Kapital and The Communist Manifesto to
be able to understand the other side's arguments. You can't "effectively"
argue from ignorace.
