I found out that they're right over the hill from me in Salt Lake and that's
why I get stuff from them so damn quick. The End Records in Salt Lake -- how
funny is that?

Just got mine this weekend. I haven't opened it yet, as I've been listening to
my burned copy. It's still not above Karma or T4L, but I am liking it more and
more.

they're pretty damned good about getting stuff all the way to Georgia pretty
damned quick, too. I've had orders I placed come in 3 days later. The End rocks.

Cool. It took me a few listens to get into Karma. I guess I should have just
ordered T4L while I was at it.

That USPS priority mail thing is pretty dang cool. If I would have ordered
earlier in the day, there's a chance I would have had them tomorrow. I still
think they'll be here by Saturday.

Well I may pick it up. Karma grew on me somewhat but I really only
like about 4 songs on the entire disc.

Absolutely Rocks...forgot to mention that I purchased VP, Evergrey,
Edguy and Angel Dust all from The End. Ordered on Friday Jan 17th and
I had all 4 CDs in my grubby paws on Tues. Jan 21...probably would have
had them on the 20th if it weren't for MLK Jr. holiday. I will use The
End from now on whenever possible.
On the other hand I ordered Balance of Power through CD Universe on
1/24 and I still don't have it.

That is funny. That's mormon country. I bet very few of their sales
eminate from that state.
That's a good mini haul you are getting.
I've had the Kamelot on cdr for quite some time, and it's quite solid. I'm
taking it that you will really like it a lot.
For me it's not moving me like the past two discs, but for you it will
probably be a big hit.
That VP disc is quite good, so you made a nice purchase there.
As for the Jag Panzer disc -- I think it's great. It's my favorite of
theirs by a wide margin. They do a really nice job in their efforts to
portray "Macbeth". Cool stuff!!
I consider myself the big Kamelot fan around here. I like the disc just
fine, but I am slightly burnt out on them.
It just hasn't moved me as much as other discs of theirs.
I don't think it's any kind of a clone of their last few efforts, but
something is missing.
I heard the actual store version has a different production than the cdr, so
if that's true it could add something. I don't think my cdr is as great
sounding as I would prefer from Kamelot.
Also, I don't understand the story behind the disc's concept, so lyrics
might help me get more into it.
Mine should be here in a week to 10 days or so.
T4L is still my favorite of Kamelot's. It was the first disc of a new sound
from them, and I've always managed to rank it above Karma.
I'm learning that lesson right now. I made a 3 disc order from CD Universe,
mainly because Kamelot's new one wasn't being offered yet at the end. They
won't ship it to me until after Feb 4. The other two I ordered were Pagan's
Mind - Celestial Entrance, and Nightingale's new one Alive Again. Basically
these guys didn't just wait until all the discs arrived, so I've had to pay
shipping on seperate shipments. Pagan's Mind wound up running me about 16
bucks, Alive Again was 14, and I still don't have my Kamelot.
The End is definitely the best. :) I also just ordered Epica along with
two discs from my burned cd pile. I should have it pretty soon. No one has
better prices than they do and they're so fast! What's Nightingale like?
I order from the end about 95 percent of the time, but I thought they might
have got shutout on Kamleot - so since I was ordering I ordered a couple of
other discs. CD Universe was just a nervous effort to get my order in on
one of those special digi pack deals or whatever.
As for Nightingale -- I've only listented to it once, but it seemed really
good. It was pretty commercial sounding from what I remember. I liked (
I ) quite a bit, and this one seems like it should be pretty good. I'll let
you know more after I spin it a few times.
The Pagan's Mind is quite good. I've been spinning it a ton since I got it.
Greg would be proud of me for my most played disc of the week choice!!
Opeth - Still Life. That disc friggin rules. I've got past the death
vocals from Opeth. Actually I quite like them at times. Still Life seems
to have a lot of clean vocals, so that might be why I like it best from the
things I have from them.
Mostly I'm excited to get some new music. I planned on the Kamelot quite
some time ago and put off the VP until Kamelot was available. The JP is
along for the ride. I listened to them about 15 years ago or so and was
amazed that they were still around. Out of all the tracks I downloaded from
their page, Thane sounded the best. Definitely looking forward to their
arrival.

www.lasercd.com is also a great place to buy prog (and SOME power metal)
stuff.

Makes sense to me! I actually wanted to order the Odyssey from The End
with my Epica order but unfortunately they didn't have it.

Cool. I've never heard anything from them at all, so I was curious
about what they're like.

I have a really hard time with death metal vocals. An Opeth fan I used
to chat with online sent me quite a few of their songs, and I just can't get
into that kind of singing. Maybe one of these days I'll put forth more of
an effort, but I don't see it happening any time soon.
> What's Nightingale like?
That depends on which album you listen to, they are all different
(speaking of the first three as I haven't yet listened to the new
one).
"Breathing Shadow" - More electronic, not as in techno electronic, but
programmed drums for example. Not usually my thing but I took to this
disc straight away. Quite a dark and gothic kind of atmosphere to it.
Dan is responsible for just about all music & programming. The most
'different' of the lot but still probably my favourite. Must listen to
it again soon.
"Closing Chronicals" - A bit of a prog-fest musically, more organic
sound overall incl. real drums, his brother now involved too. Took me
a few listens to get into but still worth it.
"I" - I found this to be a bit of a letdown... everything is too
smooth and polished and rather 'song oriented'. Gone are the dark
atmospherics of the first album and the instrumental workovers of the
second.
I hope when I listen to "Alive Again" that it's got more of an edge to
it somehow than "I".

I think Opeth are one of those bands that help people like you and me
get over the death vocals problem... of course the increasing use of
clean vocals helps :) but the death vocals do have their place and
really add to the more intense and aggressive bits, just as the clean
vocals work well with the slower and/or more melodius parts.
I think once you are in to one Opeth album, you are pretty safe to get
them all. "Blackwater Park" was only my 2nd Opeth album (I had the
first one "Orchid" for quite some time and had always thought about
getting more) and I took to it immediately so I'd recommend that as a
next purchase.
I think you nailed it here. These guys managed to be interesting and
creative enough to keep me listening - which allowed me the time necessary
to get over those death vocals.
I'll also take your advice and pencil down Orchid for future purchase.
>I'll also take your advice and pencil down Orchid for future purchase.
Nooo... it was Blackwater Park that I reckon you should be able to get
into pretty easiler :) I'd save getting Orchid (their first album)
for when you think you can deal with more death and less clean vocals.
Oh, I misread your post I guess. I already have BP. It was my first from
them. I like it just fine, but I think Still Life is quite a bit better.
I'll hold off on Orchid for a while then!! I have some mp3's from My
Arms... that I need to burn off to disc and get into my regular rotation.
Those will be the next set of tunes I look to get into.

Sorry Rox, I should have explained Nightingale better. They are the band
led by Dan Swano, and come from Germany.
Their songs are strange overall -- a lot of them sound like they are a
commercial friendly band, but when you read the lyrics the songs are really
dark.
There are folks out there than can explain this band better than I can, but
basically all of the discs have played on the same theme.
In fact in "I" - the disc just prior to this - their are song lyrics for all
the albums - I guess they didn't put them in the first few releases.
This new one has that same theme going on ,and the songs hit you at first as
being radio friendly, but they are dark in parts.
My first impressions of this disc are pretty favorable, but so far I haven't
found more than one or two tunes that stand up to the best on the last disc
"I".
