I've had that one hanging around for a while now. It's really cool what you
can tell about an area just by the lights. Africa, South America, and
Siberia, for instance, are quite dark. Australia, most of the lights are on
the coast. The light density decreases in Europe from West to East. The US
is one big energy hog.

Ever noticed the one little cluster of lights near the north pole?
(Go straight up from Canada and look for it.) Every time I look at this pic I
wonder to myself "Who the hell is that???"

Hmmm...any info on how the picture was produced? Time-lapse, I'm
guessing (nevermind, I see the link for this part, but it spurs more
questions)? At what time of day? Which season? Obviously there are
population density differences between countries and regions, but I'm
wondering what other factors might be coming into things.
