McCartney Telemovie Gets Thumbs Down From Brother

Linda McCartney's brother, John Eastman, has no kind words for her
self-appointed biographer, Danny Fields.

I paraphrase here: "He's a pig," he told me last night. And Eastman is not
the kind of person who uses the actual verbiage that he chose at that
moment. The esteemed attorney who helped Paul McCartney fashion his great
fortune over the last 30 years is considered by some a Robert Redford
lookalike and comports himself in the quietest tones.

Fields is the author of a new book about Linda called Linda McCartney: A
Portrait, upon which the CBS movie The Linda McCartney Story was based.
Booklist said of the book: "this is an ignorant, gauche, and embarrassing
book, a sort of grossly overwritten fan-magazine sob story."

"It was totally unauthorized," Eastman said of the movie and the book. "We
did not give them permission and we didn't license any music for it."

Eastman did not see the telemovie, but if reviews are any indication, most
critics didn't care for Fields' portrayal of his "close friend" as a groupie
who slept around until she met and married Paul McCartney.

Meanwhile, he - as well as others - might question Fields' exploitation of
Linda's death. "He was Linda's friend," Eastman said, shaking his head, "but
I don't know why he did it."

In his Linda bio Fields talks about how it's no fun being on the receiving
end of Paul's displeasure. Is that from personal experiences, I wonder?.

I wonder just how much actual contact Fields had with Paul over
the years. In our taped "interview" he told me Paul "tolerated"
him
for 30 years. Only nice story he had to tell was a much juicier
version of the anecdote he put into the book about the veggie
barbecue on the McC's Long Island estate. On top of this, he
asked me a lot of questions about Paul that indicated to me he
not
only didn't spend much time with the guy -- he didn't bother to
do much photo research.

The more I know about this self-appointed closest friend, the
less I think he deserved to write about Lin.

Sure, when Paul is cold, he's icy -- but I don't think Fields
has anything to complain about. Not yet...
