This is something I have noticed . ALIVE III was good , BUT it could have
been 100 times better if it was not 75% remixed or rerecorded in the
studio . The lead guitar on Alive III sounds rather shitty at points . It
sounds like it was recorded and then remixed . Bruce does not sound that
way on the many bootlegs I have heard . Actually , the South American
shows of 1994 ( Santiago , Chile in particular ) sound better than Alive
III . I prefer the more raw versions of tracks . I could easily name off
20 bootlegs which I prefer over ALIVE III since 1984 . Maybe I should
compile a list ! Even if the sound quality is not as good , the fact that
it is the real raw show makes me like it more . Bootlegs such as Tokyo
1988 and Detroit 1984 and Santiago 1994 are perfect examples of albums
better ( in my opinion of course ) than ALIVE III .
Also there are even songss on it that weren't even played live during the
three nights the album was recorded during . With this new live album
coming out I am also worried this will happen . I have heard that the
unreleased tracks were remixed and edited beyond beleif or parts were
rerecorded . THIS IS NOT WHAT I CALL A LIVE ALBUM ! I hear the vocal tracks
are abviously recent ! I want to hear the way it was . By the way , I
don't even know if Two Timer was ever played live ! I know Room Service
was ( Philadelphia 1975 ) , Let me know was ( Throughout 1974 and
Cleveland 1975 ) , Take Me was throughout 1977 and 1978 .
I think I'm gonna try to find bootlegs from 1975 to hear how Room Service
and Two Timer actually sounded . Let me Know from 1975 ( Cleveland )
really rocks ! I have also been told that parts of ALIVE! and ALIVE II
were overdubbed .... Well at least it wasn't as blatantly obvious as
ALIVE III , or by the reviews the new album . Oh well , AT LEAST MTV
UNPLUGGED WAS REAL LIVE MUSIC !!!!! :)

ALIVE! - Greatest rock album ever !
ALIVE II - I'm sure some overdubs took place
ALIVE III - I'm sure it was recorded more in the studio than in
Cleveland , Detroit or Indy .

Oh well . I'm tired . I'm going to bed ! :)

Yes it was. Plenty of times. Maybe there aren't any bootlegs with Two Timer,
but doesn't mean the song wasn't performed live back then.

You've heard right....but what you call 'obvious' overdubbing in A3 is
actually the result of overproduction.

: ALIVE III , or by the reviews the new album . Oh well , AT LEAST MTV

Think again man! There's quite a bit of overdubbing on Unplugged, It's not
obvious, but it's there.

: ALIVE! - Greatest rock album ever !

Agreed. Did you that some of the audience noise actually came from a
Football game?

: ALIVE II - I'm sure some overdubs took place

Not only overdubs, but "King Of The Nightime World", "Hard Luck Woman"
and "Tomorrow And Tonight" were recorded in the studio and then had
the live audience sound added on top.

: ALIVE III - I'm sure it was recorded more in the studio than in

: Cleveland , Detroit or Indy .

There's probably less overdubbing on this album than on the previous two
combined. The problem with album was that it was mixed to death. Ok, I'm
exagerating. There isn't a single mistake on A3, so yeah, there was
plenty of studio overdubbing...
But keep in mind that EVERY band, abosolutely every band, overdubs their
live music.

Zappa never overdubbed his live stuff.

No overdubbing on Slayer's 'Decade of Agression' , or King Diamond's
'Abigail in Concert', and it's quite easy to tell.

Alive 3 had less overdubing than 1 and 2.

Just a question - I heard that Alive II was almost totally re-recorded in
the studio, but I also heard that Alive was almost totally really live.
Being a live album connoisseur, it sounds to me like Alive II is too
perfect - and the drums are fake and the bass is studio sounding, really
thin. Alive, however, really sounds live to me. (I just wish Paul's guitar
were louder in the mix)

Really? That's hilarious! (source?)

Sorry to keep saying this, but - Really?

Not everyone. Slayer live - Decade of Agression is completely live, and
there are mistakes to prove it. Also Testament - Live at Eindhoven
(and probably Return to the Apocalyptic City and Live at the Fillmore too).
I can think of quite a few more thrash stuff. Big bands, major labels,
though, yes, there is quite a bit of overdubs (look at any Ozzy live album).

: > : KISS STILL RULES AND ALWAYS WILL ( 1974 - 1996 )

Amen.

: Alive 3 had less overdubing than 1 and 2.

I'd have to listen to A3 again. It sure sounds live, though, so if
it's in the studio, they did a good job.

Jackyl's _Night of the Living Dead_ also contains no overdubs, according
to the "letter" included from Jesse James Dupree.

Is it just me or does anyone else think ALIVE II sounds terrible? If
redubbing was done to that album, it wasn't enough!! ALIVE gives you
the feel of being at a great live show, although the lousy CD mastering
job by George Marino ruins the sound with that static he seemed to add at
his disgression!!
I hope the re-issues will solve that problem and if Re-dubbing is needed..
They have my vote! It's a matter of what is the better product. ALIVE
III is proof of what a live album can sound like after some sweetening.

If I'm not mistaken, some of the songs on Alive II were recorded live... at
soundcheck. Kiss is just like Cheap Trick--they've never released a truly live
album--they go back in the studio and record over their live tracks.
