Has anyone else heard the Cheap Trick song Surrender? There's a line in
the song where they sing,"When I got home/Mom and Dad were sitting on
the couch/Rock and rollin',rollin' rockin throw my Kiss records out"?
What's up with that? And in the video they throw copies of Unmasked out
into the crowd and everybody stomps on the records!! Why Why Why Why????

I'm tired of all these copycat bands dissin' on Kiss and Kissfans
shouldn't take it lying down! If it wasn't for bands like Kiss and the
Goo Goo Dolls there would be no rock today!!

Huh? And you call yourself a "fan"? The lyrics go "When I got home/Mom and
Dad were sitting on Tim Couch/Rock and rollin', kissing him, throwing his
Cleveland Browns records out."

We should all know that "kissfannumber1" is a troll by now, but Cheap
Trick did actually "diss" KISS in an interview once.

I have an interview on video where they ask them why they did the "Got my
KISS records out" line, and Rick says something to the effect of "we just
wanted to name the lamest, cheesist band we could think of at the time."

But I think they actually like KISS, (as their performance at the DRC
Party/show).

Dude, the lyric is "got my Kiss records out", not throw! They were
paying homage to Kiss with that lyric. Kiss and Cheap Trick were
friends at the time (don't know about now). And it's not the band's
fault if the crowd stomps on their free Kiss records!

Rick Nielsen also said this at the Q&A session after the San Francisco show for
the first album last year (early this year?).

That's "Got my KISS records out" Not "throw". But "Got". Okay, Emily

Cheap Trick is just pissed because they are gonna half to play
clubs for the rest of their lives.

Rick also let it be known that he was joking after he said it; Kiss helped get
Cheap Trick with their demo's in the middle 70s and got some big people to take
notice of their talents. Rick also says this as well!

Actually, I prefer club shows to big arena shows which are more often
than not pretty boring. Besides, Cheap Trick have no reason to be
pissed, they are still releasing GREAT albums and touring on a regular
basis. I think that is what bands are supposed to do, but if people
would rather buy N*Suck discs, that's fine, I'll take Cheap Trick
(with the exception of Tom Waits) over any other artist out there.

But you know they wish they could still play arenas even if it
would be opening for KISS.

What is funny about this is, on the back cover of Cheap Trick live at
Budokan. The lead guitarist (whatever the hell his name is??) is playing
an original Paul Stanley Ibanez Iceman guitar. Check it out.

Actually, according to Guitars Of The Stars--Rick Nielsen, that
particular guitar is a Greco "Rick Nielsen model" and not an actual
Ibanez Iceman. It might be interesting to note that the same book,
which features photographs of Rick's guitar collection, also has a
photo of a Kramer axe bass, which was given to Rick by Gene Simmons.
To quote the book:

"This was given to me by Gene Simmons from Kiss--Kiss gave Cheap Trick
a big break by taking us out on tour in 1977--Thanks guys!"

You missunderstand. The song says his parents rolling on the couch, rolling rock and got my Kiss records out. Cheap Trick used to give out their latest album to some of the audience during concerts. Cheap Trick loves Kiss!

With all the Kiss albums Cheap Trick has thrown to their audiences, they are probably the largest individual purchaser of Kiss albums.

?!?!?!?!??!?

Huh. Not ONE post here has mentioned the previous line: "Whatever happened to all the season's losers of the year? Every time I got to thinking - when they'd disappear?"

Considering the very next lines are the ones discussed above this post, are there any of us here STILL unaware of how painfully obvious it is that CT were, like, DISSING THE ABSOLUTE FUCK out of Kiss?

I don't care how many Kiss albums CT threw out to the crowds or Nielson's quote above stating his thanks to Kiss for giving them their break with the '77 tour - those lyrics are pretty straightforward to this cowboy.

From Wikipedia: "For example, the narrator describes how he discovers his "mom and dad are rolling on the couch" and listening to his Kiss records late at night ("rolling numbers, rock-and-rolling, got my Kiss records out") This mention was a thank you by Cheap Trick who were heavily supported by Kiss in their early days as a support band to Kiss."
