I used to have it on a beta tape.I taped it off of HBO in 1977.It was a
great show.It is the Destroyer tourI was the only person in the whole
area that had a vcr.You could'nt even rent tapesfor about 4 years.

It's from Japan 77' Rock and Roll Over Tour.

They use the Destroyer costumes but have the Alive 2 stage.

I remember watching this at a friends hose, around 1977-78. It
was the same tour as KISS Alive II. We didn't tape it because
back in the old days nobody had VCR's. I am surprised that with
all the other videos KISS has released over the years, that this
one was never re-released.

YES!!!! WHO HAS THIS???? I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!! This was on HBO a long
ass time ago and it is TOTALLY KICK!!! I've been waiting a life time for
them to show this again but they haven't. I didn't even know what a
VCR was when this was televised, so suffice to say, I've only seen it
once and I DON'T HAVE A COPY!!!! WHERE, WHO, WHAT, HOW, WHEN????
This is a MUST HAVE for any Kiss fan! If anybody knows how to get this
then please share it with us.

If this is what I'm thinking about then IT IS A 1976 KISS CONCERT IN ITS
ENTIRETY!!!! This is worth killing for.

I have a copy that isn't too bad. I picked it up in a record store on
Long Island. It's the R-N-R Over tour from Japan.

I saw that practically every time it was on HBO. It was a great show, but
as I recall, it's only about 50-60 minutes. But my fading memory may be
failing me again.

It was called;

KISS - Budokan Hall
Tokyo, Japan 1977

It's great!
I bought it at the KISS Konvention when they came to Pittsburgh.

I also bought Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park.

One of the previous writers was correct. It was a tape of the
Rock and Roll Over tour on a stop in Tokyo. I've always thought it
was strange that HBO played a tape of that concert at a time when
the Love Gun tour was basically over and Alive II had been released.
The Love Gun show was much more impressive.

It was a 60 minute show from the destroyer tour.I had a vcr then and had
it on tape.I don't know where the tape went. The vcr was a betamax and
weighted about 100 pounds.I saw the show about a 1000 times!!!.now all I
have is a super 8 film of part of the show in Oakland Ca from 1976.
Bummer!!!!To try and find the video you might try a company called

International Transfer
po box 313
Revere,mass

I got some good tapes from them including the show from Sydney 1980.
A catologe is 1.00
I was happy with their service.

If is's the same show that I used to have then it is the Destroyer tour
not the rock and roll over tour.

Actually it is a 1977 show of Kiss in Japan. (The Budokan). They are in the
1976 costumes on the then brand new Alive II stage. It is a cool show but...
kinda dull. The lighting isn't too good. Maybe I have seen it too many times
cos I remember when I first saw this video in 77...I was spellbound...

I'm watching the tape right this second.
Maybe you can't mistake the Destroyer stage, but you musta had some
kinda funky VCR back then...... They are playing in front of the
Alive II set. There are no burned out buildings anywhere to be found.

Just setting the record straight......

stage.I had a vcr back then and had a copy for years.I don't know where
the tape went, but I have seen it dozens of times. You can't mistake the
Destroyer stage with the burned out buildings.

I've only seen this thing once, but I do remember that R&R Over songs
were played on it. I would suspect that R&R Over was out by the time
it was filmed.

We may be confusing Kiss destroys Anaheim for the HBO special and that's
why people are disagreeing. But now that I think about it, weren't R&R
Over songs played on Kiss destroys Anaheim too?

When I saw Kiss in '76 it was after the release of R&R Over, but I
don't remember the stage set being as elaborate as the Love Gun tour.
And I don't remember any destroyed automobiles either.

I remember watching it when it was on. I think it was July 1979.
It was the Dynasty tour. I can't remember the songs for sure. The
HBO was only an hour. It wasn't the full concert (I think)
It was pretty cool. The only thing that really stands out in my
memory is Ace's guitar smoking in his solo.

You guys, we must remember that there were an aweful lot of Kiss concerts
filmed back in the 70's, and I think you guys are all talking about four
or five different films.

Contact this guy:

Eric Paradis
C.P. 308
St Lambert Quebec
CANADA J4P 3P8

He has a bunch of Kiss videos he copys and sells. His current catalog
lists three different dates in '76 that were pro-shot, four from '77, none
from '78, and one from '79, all pro-shot - these aren't 8mm films shot
from the audience or anything. The shows each of you guys is discussing
could be any of these.

Was there a 2nd KISS concert shown by HBO later on, perhaps in 79? Or
is Tokyo 77 the only one they've broadcast? TREVOR

version of that show available on the collector's circuit (80 minutes as

The full unedited concert of the HBO special happens to be on the very first KISSOlogy volume DVD set. It is on Disc Two and is the second concert to choose from on Disc Two. That was a great show they did. I was overjoyed to see this on TV. I watched this again a few days from my copy of KISSOlogy Volume One and it was great to relive those childhood memories of the Summer of '79. I watched this religiously until the very last day they showed this. As always, KISS was in top form that night and the show was very exciting. Those fans in Tokyo that night really got a memorable extravaganza that night. I bet that they, the Japanese fans who were there that night, are still talking about this show to this very day. Their shows are always memorable.

By the way, I managed to see them in 2017 when KISS came to Niagara Falls, NY and performed an outdoor concert at the Seneca Niagara Casino. It was excellent and I enjoyed every minute of it. My throat was soar for several days, but I still had a wonderful time and, again, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Here's another source that talks about this particular HBO special, which is a KISS message board:
