Detroit and Warrant opened for PAul Stanley there too.

LUVVV Black n Blue...that is one 80s band that really should have made
it and never did.

I saw the Plasmatics open for KISS too, during the COTN tour. And on
the "Animalize" tour I saw WASP open for them in Lansing, MI.

Regarding Rush, Casablanca Records turned Rush down. I read the book "And Party Every Day: The Inside Story of Casablanca Records" by Larry Davis, who was Neil Bogart's cousin. Davis was the one who wouldn't sign Rush to Casablanca. Later on, Rush would sign a USA distribution deal with Mercury Records and the rest was history. Davis felt that their time hadn't come and that they wouldn't have taken off at the time. Oh well. Mistakes are made every day. Later on, in the early 1980's, KISS would be transferred over to Mercury Records three years after PolyGram bought out Casablanca.

I remember that. I remember buying that magazine issue just for that. I also remember that he also shared his personal feelings about the bands on whether he liked, loved or didn't like or love. I also remember reading on Twisted Sister that he didn't have a problem with them, but that they had a problem with KISS. Gene also stated that in every interview, Twisted Sister talked about them, even going as far as a few of the members of Twisted Sister stating that they were once in KISS. Gene remarked saying that they wished that he would let them know so he could pay them their back royalties. He did say that their stuff was credible.

Correct - I remember him liking Accept - saying they had a good image.
That was really his whole angle, if a band had a good visual or image
hook, he liked them. I agreed with much of it, but, now I realize,
music was always secondary to him - it was product.

It's funny how we can remember these crazy magazine stories from 35
years ago! :)

Dee Snider has stated on more than one occasion that Jay Jay French was in Wicked Lester, the pre-KISS band, but Paul Stanley says no, he only auditioned. I brought this up once somewhere, Jay Jay saw it, and got pissed off about it, saying he never claimed he was in the band, and he's tired of being accused of saying he was. I then shot back at him, saying I didn't say HE claimed it, DEE did! I then sent him a link to a video on YouTube (cued to the exact moment) where Dee said it while Jay Jay was sitting right there, and never denied it.

I opened for KISS once in Vancouver, I was originally thrown off the bill due to a conflict with the Scorpions (I believe Doc managed them too at the time, that or word got around) Anyway, I was replaced by Nickleback, I was signed to Nikki Sixx's label at the time and he knew how much it meant to me, so he asked Gene again and I was added for 15 minutes set before Nickleback, joke was on me though because it was also before they OPENED THE DOORS! There you go! Hey! On that Legendary show of shows I would have given my left nut to be at:

KISS, The New York Dolls, and Iggy and The Stooges....didn't Teenage Lust open that show?

I guess KISS played under the Dolls and Iggy, but it's worth mentioning as to me it's the greatest bill of all-time, and hard to believe it actually happened.

Oh! Don't forget Smashing Punpkins, Flash Bastard, Harlots of 42nd street, Street Punk...

Of course! Did nobody mention them before?

Oh! And here's a good one: Degeneration, Flash Bastard, and Smashing Pumpkins (I may have mentioned them before, but I don't think anyone has mentioned Degeneration before) all opened for KISS in the 90's/2000's

I also seem to recall that The Ramones opened for KISS on a few occasions. I remember reading about it in an interview with Johnny Ramone.

Also..I can't remember if they were opening for KISS (I think they were as they were never big in North America) but I KNOW KISS played with Slade.

Oh! And here's another one with a story behind it: In 79-90 there was a "New-Wave-Glitter-Rock" band in the U.K called GIRL. Its members included future Def Leopard guitarist Phil Collen and future L.A Guns frontman Phil Lewis (What's with the "Phil's"?) They opened for KISS on The Unmasked tour (There was a European tour) The Story is this: Phil Lewis was talking to Kim Fowley during the tour. Fowley told Lewis that KISS had never been big in the U.K and he thought it would be a good idea for Girl to do the song "Do you love me" Credited to Stanley/Ezrin/Fowley/Anthony maybe Fowley thought the song could be a hit and was pissed that KISS never released it as a single? Who knows? But regardless, Fowley inexplicably talked Lewis into having Girl perform the song live while opening for KISS (What did they THINK was going to happen?) They played the song. Gene called them into the dressing room and told them not to do it again. Even MORE inexplicably they played it THE NEXT SHOW. Gene called them in again and threw them off the tour. VERY WEIRD story if you ask me, I heard Phil Lewis himself tell it, so I think it's true, but it's hard to understand the motive behind it, probably just Fowley having fun fucking with the program.
