It was said that Paul wrote the song for Rod Stewart to sing, but when Peter
heard it he said, "no way, I'll sing it" (or something to that effect).
Kiss had a top 40 hit (maybe top 10 I don't remember) with it in the late 70s,
with yes, Peter singing it. The two biggest hits at the top of Kiss' popularity
were with Peter on vocals (and drums).

Yes, Peter does sing the song. I don't know why Paul didn't, but those
that wrote/writes songs didn't/don't always sing it themselves. I think
Peter did a great job singing "Hard Luck Woman". Remember Garth Brooks'
version last year(?). It is on the album "Kiss My A**".

I heard something similar. Something like Paul wrote it kinda in that
vein since Peter has that gravely Rod Stewart-esque quality to his
voice. Or something like that.

There are no drums in "Beth"

Honestly, Paul singing it wouldve made it sound, drab! Peter has the
perfect voice for HLW and the host of other songs Kiss did; could you
imagine Paul singing Baby Driver?

After reading "Kiss and Sell", a really great book, I do believe that
thier biggest hits in the 70's were "Beth" and "I Was Made For Loving
You".

Just for some of you who might care [I doubt that includes Stevie]
here's KISS' chart action in the UK. It's VERY disappointing!

Singles:
I Was Made For Lovin' You.......#50
A World Without Heroes..........#55
Creatures Of The Night..........#34
Lick It Up......................#31
Heaven's On Fire................#43
Tears Are Falling...............#57
Crazy Crazy Nights..............#4 <= !!! ARGH!
Reason To Live..................#33
Turn On The Night...............#41

Albums:

Alive!........................#49
Destroyer.....................#22
Alive II......................#60
Dynasty.......................#50
Unmasked......................#48
(Music From) The Elder........#51
Creatures Of The Night........#22
Lick It Up....................#7
Animalize.....................#11
Asylum........................#12
Crazy Nights..................#4

I'm not sure about any issue after 1987, but it's fair to suggest that
both HYH & Forever probably did reasonably - then again, perhaps not!

They did have 4 pretty good years.

Some of the best Kiss songs were sung by somebody else than the
writer: Strange Ways, Cold Gin, Parasite, God of Thunder, Black
Diamond, New York Groove. Even Eric Singer sang a song he never wrote
in Unplugged (Nothin' to Lose).

I've always thought that HLW was a better song for Peter than Beth.

Maybe there are drums on the song and Peter is just hitting them real
light. - MPG

I think the GB version of HLW is Excellent! One of the best KISS covers
I've ever heard. That and Anthrax remaking SHE on the Kiss My Ass CD
make it worth every penny... the rest are just ok in my opinion, but
Garth and Anthrax rock that album

Personally, I thought the GB version of HLW was rather lackluster,
although I must admit that hearing it on the music service they use at
work was a kick. Anyway, I heard that Garth wanted to do something more
rockin' and out of character for him, like Rock abd Roll All Nite, or
Detriot Rock City. That would've been really cool I think. Overall that
tribute album is a joke.

I thought it was a great job. It's about the only reason I ever put in
the tribute CD. I almost expected country radio stations to give it some
airplay. But I was disappointed. Probably record company politics or
something.

Well, I can't. I think GB has done more damage to country than good. I
like "real" country - like David Allen Coe. The CMA wont even recognize
him!! Coe's the man!!

Good point. I have always maintained that KISS was a great ROCK band,
not HEAVY METAL.

The same thing for Shania Twain. But she sells a lot more records
than those 'real country' artists, so I guess she doesn't care that
much.
