Here's mine:

Found Faith Hope Love on used CD at a local CD/Comic Book shop a few years
back. The cover of the booklet had been signed in Sharpie by the guys in the
band. Some kid must have been hard-up to part with it, or his mother must
have cleared out his collection!

What a find!

Dang! Usually anything with a Fender logo won't go for less than full
retail at a pawn shop, even if it's a cheap Squire or Prodigy of
something like that. I once found a beat-up Les Paul Studio for $160.
I polished it up and put new knobs on it and it didn't look too bad.
Then a couple of years later I sold it to another pawn shop for $400.

I got an autographed Ian Moore CD like that recently. It even had a
ticket stub from a gig inside the case. Not bad for $3.

I'm really not a big autograph guy, though, unless it's on a photo
that I have taken. That would be kinda cool.

I've never gotten a good deal on a used cd--cheapest has been about $7.

on the other hand, I got a new cable-knit wool sweater for $1 at Macy's a few
years ago. last year at a Hilton Hotel in San Diego, I got about 20 pieces of
silver jewelry, at least $500 worth, for $65 (it was 70% off, then 60% off the
sale price. or something).

I once went to the local "Blockbuster Music" to find some 2-CD jewel cases,
and walked out with (all used)

"In From The Storm - Jimi Hendrix Tribute"
"Liquid Tension Experiment"
"Galactic Cowboys - The Horse That Bud Bought (only $1.99!!)"
"24-7 Spyz - Heavy Metal Soul By The Pound"

And no, I didn't find the jewel cases....

If you count LPs, I got about 80 of them for 20 bucks about 10 years ago -
lots of Riot, Fastway, and others of that ilk. Think I got a Yes 3-LP set
for a dime at a rummmage sale in 1984 or so.

As to used-cd stores, I have gotten KX, Urge Overkill, Van Halen, and other
various stuff for 1-3 dollars.

yeah, wheelin' and dealin'!

scott, you found a strat that cheap?!!! some people have all the luck.
i'll bet that thing is worth over a thousand dollars, being pre-cbs!

get this...my mom was visiting her friend in florida a few years ago.
they were at a second hand shop, and found this painting. they were
both talking about how juvenile it looked, and how abstract paintings
were crap, etc. well, came to find out later, IT WAS A PICASSO!!! i
came close to disowning my own mom when i heard that, but i sort of
forgave her.

okay, coolest cd purchases...i was in a coffeeshop next door to a
recors store in raleigh. the owner of the record store came in and got
me. "you gotta see this" he said. someone had an import/bootleg cd of
lenny kravitz called "feilds of joy". it was from the "mama said"
tour. this guy wanted to sell it to the record store, and they couldnt
buy a bootleg, due to ascap laws. so, i talked to the guy, asked him
"how much", and he said "five dollars"! i was cool, said "okay"...man
under all that, i was in shock! what a steal! the quality was that of
a handheld cassette recorder, but it was a rare show.

also, i have found rare cd deals in "goldmine" magazine. they have
listings of record stores all over the country. hard work, very fine
print, very time consuming...but well worth it! i found and ordered
copies of "building blox", "a box", and "looking for love" as well as
a promo for "it's love" in there!

and of course, i am still waiting for the day i see a les paul at a
yard sale for five dollars.

Let's see, I got eric gales(s/t) for $1(canadian), arc angels for 99 cents,
dreams from Allman Brothers(box set) $20(canadian funds), Ty Tabor's
Moonflower Lane for $5(don't know why anyone would part with this.) and a
signed Sloan cd.
This is sort off topic, but 84 cds of mine were stolen from my car and I had
to go through insurance(hassle) to recover them, plus some other stuff.
Anyway i was going to this flea market and i saw some of my stolen cd's
there(i knew because of the ecclectic styles of music) and called the cops
and long story short got all my cds plus the ones from insurance(sad note
though they sold Gretchen between the time I went to call the cops and when
they got there). I did get gretchen later used. All King's x cds were out of
print for a while in Canada and now they are considered imports(early cds
anyway)which costs a bit more. That really sucks, eh...

actually,i got about $1,500 out of it-i sold it to a vintage guitar shop for
$1,500.they sold it to the guy who played for the '70s band ''wet
willie''(anyone remember them?).i can't describe the look of anguish on the
owner of the guitar shop's face when he found out what i paid for it(i
didn't tell himm until after he bought it-but he kept asking over & over).i
figure that is a once in a lifetime find...

I love browsing discount cds in used cd stores but the best find actually
came in a thrift store. In a pile of old t-shirts I found a large KX4
t-shirt in brand-new condition. 25 cents.

You dog! The best I could do was a Dream Theater promo CD (had
"Peruvian Skies" and two other songs) for 50 cents at a flea market.
But wait! I also picked up a mint-condition Earl Campbell rookie card
at a flea market for a nickle several years ago. And I snagged a
Nr-MT Nolan Ryan rookie for $125 at a baseball card shop auction in
1991 (it goes for more than ten times that now). So I guess I have
good luck with sports cards but none with music. Unfortunately, I'm
trying to sell all my sports cards now because I haven't been into
them in years.

I did some of that too. Don't sell now. Wait until the fad comes back
and sell high.

I found a t-shirt for my son recently at a thrift store--the front says
"Nsync" and the back says "New methods for gas transport." no kidding.

I got a German Import boot of Tori Amos's "Y Kant Tori Read" CD in
Canada for $18. I went to a record show a week later and found the
same album, but with b-sides tacked on so I kept that one and sold the
first one for $98 on eBay!
