I think that the song is about lost love. The premise evidently has
something to do with cupid getting killed(meaning a girls boyfriend),and
since this girl never reads the papers...She has no idea where her
boyfriend went and is trying to cope with his departure.According to this
song the girl has apparently no contact with the victims family members.Ahh
damn is she
just read the papers(ha,ha)...

Brian....
My interpretation is a little bit broader. I took the song to mean that love
is dead in the world. With the line "extra, extra, read all about it", I think
they were trying to get across the fact that you can see evidence of loves'
death everywhere you turn, especially in the news. Eveyrone is killing
everyone.....

The news is just sick and deppressing.I can only watch a percentage of
it.Where has humanity gone to,everywhere you turn there's cynicism.I
think the news media has influenced most peoples take on their own
backyard, when really it's the opposite. If you sit home and watch the
news all day,you obviously are destined to be a cynic.

I agree - to take it a step further, it's about how sex and lust have
replaced love in todays society (kind of continuing the theme of the
Pornografitti album)

I think the it's about lost love in the world in general. When it says
I read the paper today that "Cupid was dead", it meant that love is dead
in the world since when you normally read the paper it's all about
crimes and tragedies. It's like the song is saying Cupid must be dead
if there's so much crime, hatred, and disorder around us. That's just
what I got out of it. Later!

I remember back when quite a while ago when Gary or Nuno was being
interviewed (on TV or in a Magazine I'm not quite sure) and the meaning of
this song came up.

From what I recollect this song is about coming to grips with having
AIDS/HIV. The rap portion of this song makes it quite obvious I think.

with regards to what made me tune into extreme...

I was in my last year of High school (late 1989/early 1990. My friend's
cousin had just come from Boston to visit and gave him the tape Extreme.
He brought it to school and the first thing I noticed was the guitar. The
songs were kind of adolescent which fit. They have been my favourite band
since. needless to say the day I heard they were broke up was a bad day
for me but on the bright side, we now have Nuno's solo projects, Van Halen
with Gary, and Sammy Hagar's solo projects... and dave well who cares.
just happy he isn't in VH.
