I saw the Boys last night in Charlotte. In a word, it was great! They
sounded good, although I don't think Adrian Baker's voice fits in too
well with the band. The Charlotte Symphony was outstanding and really
added a lot to the show. It was the fist symphony show I've seen and
I'd recommend anyone going to one if they can.

A lot of the songs, such as "Sloop John B." and many others were
performed like the studio versions, instead of the usual ways they
perform them live. I assume that's because the symphony was there.
They sang two songs that I haven't heard them sing in concert, "Kiss Me,
Baby" and "Ballad of Ol' Betsy."

Bruce sounded good. I usually don't like his take on "God Only Knows',
but he did good last night. He also did the falsetto part on "Fun, Fun,
Fun."

There was one goof, though. You know the part where they do "Be True to
Your School" and Mike sings that looooong first note, then falls to his
knees? Well, that note is recorded. He stopped singing, but the
recording went on for about another two seconds. Oh well, I believe
that was the only lip-synched vocal of the night.

I met some lady from Endless Summer Quarterly. She was doing a review.
I stood out because I wore a "SMiLE" shirt. So, she axed me why I came
to the show. She seemed to be a little defensive about me liking Mike
and Bruce. I asked her if she was familiar with "The Many
(mis)Adventures of The Beach Boys!". She said she was and when I told
her I was the guy who wrote the goofy stories, she gave me a
clenched-teeth smile and walked away. I get that a lot...

I thought the Cowsil kid really stood out. He has a good voice and a
lot of charisma. He sang lead on "Help Me, Rhonda" and "I Can Hear
Music."

During "Surfin' U.S.A.", a giant American flag was displayed on the
stage. Nice touch, in my opinion.

You know what, like him or not, Mike really plays to the crowd well. My
girlfriend loved him and thought the band sounded great. She came to
the concert with no opinion and left a fan. That's one reason I support
Mike touring.

I know it's not The Beach Boys, but it's still a lot of fun and I'm glad
they're still touring. If you just put the personal stuff aside and go,
you'll have a good time because the music...Brian's music...is so good,
it's "jerk" proof.

Was anyone else who posts here there?
