(By the way i was the dork with the wraparound shades and the green/blue/red
whatever striped halter dress, black brasierre ;) and stupid jeans with the
wannabe hacker with the green cloth paperboy bag that said ANI DIFRANCO on the
strap)
ANYHOO..met some neato ppl such as jacqui, the person who i feel bad for cuz
she was not only wearing platforms but a skirt), this hairy guy named keith
who was sitting next to me, and lots more along with an x-files fanatic, and
many girls with many piercings... :)
Okay so we get in.. wait another 2 hours.. it starts pouring from like 5-6:30
(i curse those who got to sneak in at like 6:30 unwet and unharmed... A DOUBLE
:P to you)
Okay
so the Rebirth Brass Band was kinda like hiphop meets Mardi Gras but needless
to say they kinda brought down the doghouse (hey ani's job is to bring down
the actual apartment complex, ya know?)
Okay so after seemingly 40 minute songs... they left.. and out came this chick
from some radio station in NY that i can't even get on my little radio
thinger... and she was like reading frm a card all her little things..
Oxymoron maybe? : A project to help rebuild battery Park as it rains and we
mud the place up. yes.. i don't think grass will every grow there again
*sniff*
People blocked my view but yes then Ani came out.. starting with Little
Plastic Castle (yes i got ipctures.. wanna see? :)) and then with my personal
favorite.... FUEL :) hehe then she played a lot of new stuff like 'Up, Up, Up"
(is that it? up up up up up points the steam from the sewers...) Come away
"Come away from it..", umm and one i don't know but it was my favorite.. the
one about the War on drugs is really a war on poor people... the one that was
like we'll never be able to undo what they've done (to us) and then of course
"Jukebox" which a lovely person played for me already..
Ani just flat out rocked.. with her pretty little humors such as in the middle
of shy "Hello!!! Mornign!!!" hehe and her impersonation of Rudy Giuliani and
but of course her dubbing a fan in the crowd.. Mrs. Wahwah teacher from
Peanuts :)
But anyway next time you ever go to an outdoors show, bring an umbrella :)
I had the fun of dancing in a puddle afterward.. and it helped at least to get
that shitty ass mud off my shoes :)
Okay i'm done..
hope you had fun :)
love yas!!! !:)
-Linda the retarded dancing fool fan of Ani DiFranco and company
(oh yes.. i love the bearded lady andy stochansky and cleetus jason mercer and
star spangled babe "baby got back" julie wolff (is that right?) they were so
WONDERFUL and PEPPY and full of life!.. yes :))
that "come away" song was seriously one of the most beautiful things i've ever
heard.

I have a kind of painful hip from surgery I had a while back, so I
carried a little folding beach chair and sat there huddled on it
under an umbrella (but got soaked anyhow), and gradually sank in
the mud to the point where excavating the chair was hopeless and I had
to leave it behind.
For a while I felt like a geek, being the only one I saw with a chair,
but what seemed like a million people came by and stuck their heads
under the umbrella and said, "cool idea," and that sort of thing.
I hated the mud (felt like a dinosaur, getting out), but every single
person who bent down to say something or to just GRIN at the sight
made the muck a lot more tolerable.
And yes, the two new songs (I saw her do "Up, Up, Up" in Tampa, where
she said, "Hey, if I can call a song 'AsIsAsIsAsIs,' I can call one
'UpUpUp'!") were really lovely. She did one in Tampa about the depths
of the ocean -- I don't have my notes anywhere I can find -- that had
a few of the most beautiful lines I have ever heard, with the same
sentiment of "the world owes me nothing / we owe each other the world."
Cheers to everyone who outlasted the ^%$$**&* rain!

Thanks to everyone who didn't step on me and for those who did, thanks
for being so apologetic! Sorry if I got a tad protective of myself at
some points. I was terrified of being herded into the muck and mire.
The whole ordeal was SO worth it. I'm from Buffalo and have moved to
NYC. Ani's references to both our new and old "hometowns" was rather
comforting! Her voice was beautiful as always and her little twists to
the recorded versions of her music always keep us on our toes...even if
it is only 5 of them....
