Elvis is back!!

o, the King has not been spotted at another Wal-Mart in Reno... This is a
Latin magazine and when we say Elvis we mean Mr. Suavemente himself: Elvis
Crespo.

This is Elvis' sophomore solo release on Sony Discos titled "Pintame".
This is follow up to his 1st CD, "<I>Suavemente</I>", which was the
hottest record of 1998 into early 1999. As you know (if you weren't
living under a rock for the last year) the song hit the top of the Latin
charts as well as the dance charts. "Pintame" is jam-packed with music
with 11 merengues, a bachata, a ballad and a salsa.

The 1st song "Pintame" written by Elvis himself jumps right into the same
swing that catapulted Elvis to stardom. The single contains a contagious
rhythm and immediately makes you want to begin dancing and sing the catchy
lyrics. "Besos De Coral" has a very catchy chorus and again the trade
mark swing that I or none of my dancers seemed to get enough of. Two
songs written by Luis Angel Cruz (Elvis' piano player) that I liked
because of the lyrics were "Ven" & "Solo Me Miro" . The one song I was
drawn to was "Si Tu Me Alejas", written by Juan Castro. The song is more
on the mellow side of most of the other songs but the lyrics are powerful.

The bachata, which is more like a soft ballad (only difference is that it
contains a tropical percussion line), "Enamorado de Ti" was written by
Omarr Alfanno. It's a beautiful song and should allow Elvis to throw his
hat into the arena of Spanish Pop. The salsa "Eres Tu" was arranged by
Jose Lugo and shows a credit for Gilberto Santa Rosa as a vocal coach.
Gilberto is a good teacher 'cause the song is pretty good...he is not the
favorite voice for salsa but the song is extremely danceable. The ballad
written by Elvis', "Pequeno Luis", tells a horrible story of a little boy
that dies at the hands of his own father...a very sad song.

Elvis has done it again. This production has plenty of songs to choose
from that are of top quality. If you liked the 1st you will like this one
even more. Hechate pa' ca ...busca te esto.

Re: Gilberto Santa Rosa Cd

Hi, My name is Michelle Messam, I am a university student in
Birmingham, England. I am looking for a specific cd by Gilberto Santa
Rosa, the title, I am not sure of. There is a track I am looking for
"Perdonna Me - (Oye Como va)" -romantic, beautiful, typically lush
Santa Rosa ballad to woe the heart and stir the soul of any salsera
woman. The cd isn't new, but if someone can tell me what the title is,
what recording co. it was released on and what year then I can try
ordering it to complete my collection. Any help appreciated.

Were we listening to the same album? "Pintame" is about the most uninspired,
mediocre, repititious merengue album that I've suffered through. The album is
a carbon copy of "Suavamente," and the title song is almost identical to the
song "Suavamente," with insignificant changes in lyrics. This album shows no
evolution from his first album, just a lot more of the same. It is okay to
listen to as background music, but if you want to sit down and listen to good
merengue, this album will disappoint you.

I went to see Grupo Niche and Elvis Crespo in concert in Chicago a couple of
months ago. Niche performed salsa classica with energy and a lot of class.
When Elvis Crespo came on, his music sounded like circus music in comparison.
I respectfully listened to a 10 minute version of "Suavamente" that was 7
minutes too long, watched Elvis coyly play hide and seek behind the speakers,
and walked out. I had gotten my money's worth with Grupo Niche, and Elvis
Crespo would have detracted from the experience.
