Ralph Lew & Pancho Cristal are 2 different people who have similar backgrounds.
Richie & Bobby mught have also recorded a tribute to Ralph Lew but he is not
Pancho Cristal. Pancho's real name was Francisco ?, I forget his real surname
but he was a Cuban-Jew who in Cuba was well known as the owner of the Cristal
Beer distribuitorship. When he migrated to NYC and first got into the record
distribution business the musicians not remembering his last name began calling
him Pancho Cristal and it stuck.
Cristal Beer in Cuba sponsored many dances and therefore Pancho was known to
many musicians and dancers.Pancho retired here in Miami in 1992. I interviewed
him and it was a great expierence. He has since passed away.

Pancho Cristal me llama,
Pancho Cristal me llama...

Vámonos pa'l Village Gate

la voz de la tumbadora
y las estrellas de ahora...
Tiene el bembé formado,

Pancho Cristal.
Pancho Cristal..
(coro)
Yo le bailo una rumba abierta
si usted me lleva al bembé..
(coro)
Tingo, tingo que tingo-talángo
como si fuera un mamey,
Pancho Cristal.
(coro)
Que Pancho Cristal me dijo
que me lleve pa'l bembé..
(MAMBO)

more like merengue/hiphop, no?

Aside from George's comments, RR did not quit salsa to become a
christian. He was a Christian all along, and started doing salsa with
christian-themed lyrics. Then he faded away (market forces? Hmmmmm....)
Aaaaaanyway, he was in last year's Banco Popular video and put in a
slamming solo for the opening. Recently he and singer Bobby Cruz had a
major reunion concert in PR.
Oh, BTW, George, when is this year's video coming out? Put me on your
list for that one!

George, I think there's a connection there with La Playa and Richie
Ray. Richie's kid brother, trumpet player Ray Maldonado (R.I.P.)
played with La Playa for a while. I've seen his picture in a couple
of that group's albums.

I think George just called it out, because the guy referred to them as
El Sexteto de la Playa, rather than La Playa Sextette.
BTW-Ricardo Ray was not a Christian all along. This guy got it on with
the best of them and had his own harem of women to choose from. It was
later on in the 70's (Mid?) where he converted and Bobby Cruz followed
his lead. Both have their own congregations to this day. Most of the
material they played during the concert in PR this past summer had those
heavenly lyrics/messages".....
Rumbero
I get it, but you missed my point. MOST (I'd dare to say) so called
Christians have "harems," vices and other lifestyles that are totally
opposite to the teachings of their spiritual Master, Jesus. RR was a
Christian (in the loose sense of the word) all along because he was
baptized as a child. Get it?
This is not an indictment of anyone, BTW.....
Blasphemy!!!! (Joking)
...No I hear you. I just thought you meant that he was aware that he
accepted the lord before he ventured out into the music scene. Just
cause your baptized don't necessarily mean that you're a Christian. A
new born is not aware of what's..... oh forget it, whatever.
I gotcha......
Richie
PS - Add RR to the list of abbreviations.
