Does anyone know what the schedule for this summer's WOMAD festivals
in England is? I'm planning on spending a week there this summer,
and I'd like to make it one where I can see one of the festivals.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I have heard that WOMAD went bankrupt earlier this
year. A friend who owns a record store said he heard about it
because they were not sure about the continued distribution of
the RealWorld label (though this may be a separate enough entity
such that it won't be affected). I will try to find out more
info and post it.

Don't worry, the WOMAD festivals in the UK have been saved for this year at
least. I have details of WOMAD at Rivermead, Reading, 16th-18th July, with
the following artists:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Los Van Van, Oumou Sangare, Le Mystere des Voix
Bulgares, Sierra Maestra, Specialbeat, Chief Doctor Sikuru Ayinde Barrister,
Donnisulana, That Fuss That Was Us, Kante Manfila, Remmy Ongala and Super
Matimila, S.E. Rogie, Germaine Acogny, Dimi Mint Abba, Barenaked Ladies,
Tarika Sammy, plus lots more.

There is also the WOMAD Holiday Weekend in Carlyon Bay, Cornwall, 27th-29th
August with no lineup specified at present.

Finally, a possible Morecambe Bay weekend, listed as 11th-13th June OR
3rd-5th September, with no lineup specified.

Details on events from Thomas Brooman at WOMAD/Real World, Millside, Mill
Lane, Box, Wiltshire, UK, SN14 9PN. Phone +44 225 744044, Fax +44 225 743481.

Hope you can make it to one of these - WOMAD is one of the things which makes
the English summer bearable and our household was plunged into depression
when it seemed that WOMAD festivals would happen no more due to financial
problems earlier this year. Help keep things going by supporting the
festivals.
