I recently heard a salsa version of the Lionel Ritchie song 'Lady', but have
been unable to find out who it was by. Rumour has it Lionel Ritchie actually
guested on it also, but this is unconfirmed. Does anyone know what album
this track might be on?

I have this on cassette, along with a lot of the Daniel Cepeda Salsa in English
stuff. I find these tapes come in very handy for leveling table legs, and I use
them as wood shims when doing basic carpentry work as well.

But seriously, the people who run the dance classes I attend find it helps
to play some familiar tunes as 99.9% of the people attending can't speak
Spanish and have never heard any Latin music before. By giving them
something they know, albeit arranged quite differently, they're encouraged
to come back for more. Some of them even progress far enough to appreciate
the real stuff.

I'm so glad you made that "real stuff" comment there at the end. Yeah, I
understand the intention of the "salsa-en-Inglais" attempt, but oddly, Salsa
just never sounds the same when not sung in Spanish, to my ear. So what they're
being exposed to is less than it might be.
Another thing: Most of the English-language stuff I've heard could be termed
"Salsa romantica". Which, IMO, is another way of saying "Salsa Basura". So
maybe it's not the language thing per se, but the tunes they've chosen to
adapt. I mean "Lady" sucked when Kenny Rogers did it. "Lady in Red", "My Eyes
Adored You" ...good God, Frankie Vallie? Gimme a break. Blecchh.
I'd rather see 2 out of ten people converted to salsero by virtue of smokin
rhythms than 8 out of ten converted by virtue of the fact that they understand
the lyrics to "You are my Everything"
My two cents. Adjusted for inflation.

Coño, Bro, you always kill me... I was just about to say that I did an arrangement of
that tune back in 1993 (and yes, played it in public), but then I saw your post y por
poco me meo de la risa.
