A friend just arrived from Namibia, and brought a tape with
the mellowest kind of dance music, it's called kazumba, or kizumba,
from Angola and Cape Verde.
It is like a very slow merengue type rythm, it really flows to dance it,
not as feverish as salsa or merengue...
does anyone know something about this?

"Kizumba" which is also spelt "Kijumba", "Kisumba", or "Kixumba" is the
Kikongo and Kimbundu word from which the Brazilian term Samba derives.

If the rhythm is cookin', if the bottom half of your body starts jumpin'
because you have the urge to dance, there's a good possibility you're
listening to Salsa music!

Is it true that the term means belly-button, as in dancing belly-button to
belly-button?

I know Cesaria Evora. Kazomba is almost as mellow, but with a slow merengue
beat, with some distant reggae reminescences.here are some Kazomba names:

Tabanka Djaz -Angola
Female Move - Angola
Graca Eusebio- S Tome
Jorge Dalas - Angola
Kem Boys - Angola
Lura - Cabo Verde
Doctor Gato - Angola
Doka - Angola
Beto Cruz - Angola
Trio Salgado - Cabo Verde
Sol D'Africa - Cabo Verde
Saranho - Angola

check Tabanka Djaz. This is very nice dance music!
