Drive Safely This Christmas

I caught this on another forum. I don't know how long it has been
floating around. It's a very persuasive video on drinking and driving.
It is kinda graphic.

Actually, I think that was more graphic than anything I've seen this
side of the pond. They always step up the campaigns and the patrols
here over the Christmas period, too, but I think it's easier to avoid
Plod these days since they've cut back Traffic Division so much in
favour of cameras and the like.
Cameras can't tell if you're pissed...

We've got one of the best road safety records. If the furriners want
to go on killing themselves, then sod it, let 'em. All they need to do
is adopt a few British procedures and penalties.
And *we* could usefully adopt the lower blood-alcohol limits applied
in other countries, like France. Looks like that's going to happen,
actually. Our limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, and in
France it's 50mg of alcohol. No idea what it is in Norf Murrica.
In some European countries it's zero. I'm not in favour of that,
actually, because even a trace after many hours of consuming the last
drink can get you nicked, and it won't impair your judgement to any
realistic extent. But a lower, limit, yeah, bring it on. Possibly the
easiest and cheapest way to cut road deaths and injuries: easier and
cheaper than bringing in new speed limits, anyway.

In most U.S. states it is .08% for Driving While Intoxicated, some
have lower limits for a loesser charge of Driving Under the
Influence. Some have stricter limits for commercial drivers, and most
have a .00 limit for drivers under the age of 21.
We have never had anything as graphic as what Don pointed to broadcast
in Virginia. I think it would be helpful, though.
Fortunately, the number of alcohol-related arrests, injuries, crashes,
and deaths are all down dramatically since Virginia started keeping
detailed statistics in 1983, in spite of ever climbing vehicle
registrations and vehicle miles driven per year statistics.

We've had some scary ones, but scary as in "what you don't see is
sometimes more frightening than what you do see".

Some of the Think! ads were quite graphic, IMO, the seatbelt ones
for example.

Some yes, but nothing on the same scale as "see how badly we can smash
up a VW microbus" like the Canucks did in that ad.
That 'slow down for children' ad, with the little girl un twisting her
broken body, was quite horrifying, but it wasn't a 'drink-drive' ad.
