i hate the fact of that south park episode being related here ... and
i'm cursing myself for replying to it ;p

i have a brand new (2010) bike, 1694cc, and it sounds like a sewing
machine

there are several options to gain what you will flame me for, and i'd
like to run through them so that anyone willing to offer helpful
opinions can do so - and the challenge, for me, is trying to present
this suite of options such that anyone who has up-till-now been
reading along and thinking "fuck off for wanting your pipes louder!"
will not be able to simply spew such a line

i'm running supertrapp mufflers with fishtails - the fishtails are
staying - and the 2010 has a cat in the header but i'll be drilling
that out just for my own reasons

option 1: drilling a 1/2" hole in the plate nearest the tip of my
muffler
a website i trust very much, http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Horsepower.html,
suggests such a measure ... i'll gain performance and sound! yay! it's
free!

option 2: drilling several 1/4" holes in that plate
i'll get more noise and more performance! too many holes = lots of
noise, less/worse performance

option 3: remove that plate, take out the baffle, put plate back on
(or not)
loud as shit! will probably hurt the engine - but can always put it
back in, and it might be fun to be that asshole (j/k j/k)

option 4: remove that plate, SWAP the baffle
do i want to spend $100 on a baffle? kerker, mikuni ... gain noise and
performance though ... should definitely be an option, but i don't
like that i just bought new mufflers and would be laying out more
money (i'm supposed to be buying a new seat and/or a tuner to make up
for drilling out the cat)

option 5: something you suggest

option 6: do nothing
(see? you can always say "option 6!" instead of telling me to FOAD)

i have my stock mufflers still, so no matter what i can always pop
them back on to remedy a fix-it-ticket

on a side note - the dealer tossed the supertrapp's on for me and gave
me a box with the OEM's, but the OEM's have rust on the tips so i'm
doubtful they're mine ... i don't like that, i think they've pulled a
fast one ...

so there we are, anyone have any constructive help? i'm bugged by the
fact that the supertrapps are the same volume and quality as stock,
and i'm going to do something, i just don't want to get an awful noise
or damage anything

Option 5 ... Cut the muffler open , remove baffles . Drill holes in baffles
larger . Re-install baffles , with fiberglass packing or without , your
choice . I used some in mine ... Weld muffler back together . Rechrome ,
ceramic coating , or just let it rust like I did .

Super Trapp? Shit dude adjust the number of disks based on your owners
manual...DUH! As for the loud pipes stuff...so you have a little dick
and are compensating by having a loud exhaust, so what? I mean it's
better than slathering the poor bike in fringe and chrome right?

8^) You do know there is a GOOD answer in there right?

The right sound for a motorcycle is unique to the person riding it.

Patience Grasshopper!

Get out and meet with others who have a similar bike. Chat with them
and listen to their bikes. Take your time.

You should have received a HOG membership when you bought the bike.
There's your ticket in. Sooner or later you will hear a bike like
yours, with the sound you want. Copy it.

I have the HD Touring Mufflers on my Road King and while still being
street legal they sound great, to me. Deep, throaty with a nice
rumble, but they do not set off car alarms. The bike is definitely
louder after I got the cam work done.

The mufflers on my Venture were drilled out by the previous owner.
Well the previous owner had the mechanic at the dealer drill them out.
They are louder than the King but are not obnoxious. They also sound
great, to me.

Personally I'd try to avoid butchering what you have or spending a
bunch of money on the unknown.

Good Luck.

Who died and made you NetCop ?

In the days of primarily dial-up , snipping to save bandwidth was pretty
much required in order to be able to download messages in a timely fashion .
I suspect most of us are on either DSL or cable these days , and that's not
such a big deal any more .
Suck it up and go on , or just ignore my replies and posts .

You could snip signatures, too.

It's not about the bandwidth consumed on the interweb. It's about
making your posts easily readable. We don't need to see all the
quoted text that's been copied and re-copied 45 times, just the
relevant part(s) you're replying to.

my particular SE's don't have that system at all - the baffle is
wrapped in fiberglass and welded into a steel tube, and that whole
tamper-proof module is fixed inside the muffler proper

tonight i'm going to take my concrete drill bit and gouge out that
cat , and when the EPA comes a'callin' i'll sing the song of the devil
and strike them down, i will

or not

but it's either destroying the guts of the supertrapp's or just
flipping them and going v&h/pyhton/rinehart (but i don't want bleeding
ears)

i'll post back after i kill the cat

hopefully not to repeat myself =/

As Mark says, it just makes it easier to read a post.

And if you're playing the "I was there way back when" card, perhaps
you'll note that I added a smiley as well. You remember them?
