Hello, I am about to purchase my first bike. I have just about settled on a
Suzuki Intruder. Probably a 1400, but I haven't totally locked the door on
the 800. I would like to buy used (no more than 5 yrs), but those new ones
look nifty!!
Anyway, my question is are there any major flaws or problems with the
Intruder in the past 5 years?

Also, I am 6' 230 lb realistically, how much bike do I need to drag my tail
around?

Any and all replies will be appreciated!!
Thanks, Jim

Having ridden an 800 and being a large man myself I would recommend the
1400.

They're both great bikes. My son has the 800 but he's only 5'6". I'm
5'11" & always feel cramped on his bike. Buy the one that fits you best.
Either one has enough power. Mike

I'm 6', 205lbs, and ride a 1400. I am very comfortable on the bike, and
although I've only had it a little over a month, I've put a couple of 3+
hour rides on it. I've been very comfortable throughout.

Enjoy!

I bought the 800 about 3 months ago and have been very happy
with it. I am 5'11 and 160, so power is not a problem. Quoting
my buddy who rode it who is 6'4 and about 250 "It has plenty of
get up and pony" he rides a 1400 regularly.

Just my 2 cents

no major problems that i know of except the two cylinder motor is kind-a
dogie. go for the
1400 cc. motor. every little bit helps when dealing with two cylinder
bikes. and the
chopper styling is a bit out dated, even for a cruiser..

I have an Intruder 1400. It's a sweet ride.
Fast, smooth. I have put 12,000 miles on mine in the last 3 years. It does
have a couple of negatives which the Suzuki pple need to address. They are
old problems that every Intuder owner is well aware of.

1) The Battery.!!! Factory costs $ 200, aftermarket cost about $ 120. But
that's only part of the bad news. To remove it, and replace it. About two
hours.

2) The clutch. On hot days, heavy traffic, the fluid gets thin, and u lose
operation of the clutch.

3) Parts: Most dealers don't carry any, but of course they will be glad to
order it.
Be prepared tp pay!!
4) Spark plugs. Pain in the neck to change.

5) Gas tank. Look for refill at about 80 miles.

1) True, they are expensive.

2) Had many people tell me this, but never did experience it. Of course, most
of those that said about it were from Georgia, mississippi, and other very hot
states in the summer

3) Don't know, never had to buy any parts for it

4) This is a normal Suzuki thing, and not limited to the intruder models

5) Whoa! That would only be 27mpg! I routinely refilled mine at 120-130
miles, averaging about 40mpg. All time low was 36mpg, and all time high was
50mpg. I agree though, they could use about another gallon of capacity in the
tank. (somewhere in the 4.5 gallon range)
