Hi everyone,

I have this black quantum/e helmet I'd like to ad some designs to. Aside
from the usual stickers, how could I airbrush/paint the helmet with a
custom design? Does anyone have any experience doing this, what paints to
use, how to finish and preserve the design,so on and such?

any help appreciated,

Rogerio

Unless you already have some airbrushing skills, if you don't want the
result to look like it was done by a second grader you should have it done
by a professional airbrush artist. Airbrushing is a delicate
process that requires quite a bit of skill and the right masking and
coating materials; correcting mistakes is nearly impossible. Krylon out
of a can will only look like bad graffiti at best. You really get what
you pay for!

Draw up your idea for the custom design on paper and give it to the artist
to work from.

Also, keep in mind that many helmet manufacturers' warranties are
explicitly voided by after-market painting.

Nice helmet. Good choice.

Well, I found this web page:

http://www.dnai.com/~infored/paint.html

with addresses and phone numbers of places that do custom
helmet painting. Perhaps you could pose your questions to
them.

If memory serves, most of the helmet manufacturers, at best, frown
on painting the helmet shell. Some paints (don't ask me which) will
react with the resins, weakening them. If you can, try using stretch
self-adhesive vinyl. There are kits of the stuff that you can purchase.

Seek professional help. Also, if you really insist on doing this make
sure you use paints that won't "attack" the shell.

Get a Pro to paint it! It will be worth the extra money, and look better
too. Check out other designs by the painter (most good ones keep a photo
file).
