I just bought this bike used. It is in good condition, but it is a 1984.
My service manuals are on backorder and there is no owner's manual. Would
someone provide the following for me?

Oil capacity:
Gear box capacity for hypoid oil
Coolant capacity
Gas Tank capacity

-Thanks

Craig, the 84s are a bit different than the 85 and 86.

1984
Oil capacity - 3.6 liters (3.8 US Qts.)
Gear Box - 150cc's SAE 80 Hypoid (5.07 oz)
coolant capacity - ???
Gas Tank - 4.2 US Gal (16 liters), Reserve 2.6 US Quarts!

Good luck, I love my Nighthawk S!

To the top mark. On mine, ('85), if I don't drain the frame tubes,
an oil/filter change requires about three quarts to bring it up to
the full mark.

>Gear box capacity for hypoid oil

Again, to the top mark. I'm not sure, but it's maybe a 1/2 cup.

>Coolant capacity

As much as you can fit in the radiator. ;-)

>Gas Tank capacity

Not nearly enough. On my '85 it's maybe 3.5 gallons.

Never mind! My service manual arrived this evening.

I have owned a low mileage 86 CB700SC for a year. I have the shop manual,
owners manual, and numerous old magazine articles on/for the "S". The
answers to your questions are:

A. Oil - 3 quarts after oil & filter change (I strongly recommend Golden
Spector 20w50 Synthetic after engine break-in. You will even
notice smoother shifting!) Oil is routed thru the frame rails
to the oil cooler. There is a drain plug in each frame rail
in addition to the crankcase drain plug!
B. Shaft Drive - 130 cc (4.4 oz) 80 wt Hypoid gear oil.
C. Coolant - None! The bike is air cooled! The engine oil also lubes
the transmission and remove engine hear (via oil cooler).
D. Gas - 4.2 gallons

Let me know if I can help with any other questions!
