I'm pretty sure that it's an HD Sportster, with a fair number of mods.
Beyond that, I don't really know. I suppose it's possible that they
actually used an XRCR (or whatever the Cafe Racer version was called),
but I seem to remember hearing that they didn't.

In any event, it's definately a cool bike. Too bad the rest of the
movie sucked.

I'm almost sure it was an XLCR cafe racer. I actually rode one once
and could have bought it, but didn't. I still have regrets, but not
severe ones. They are cool looking bikes, but they run and ride like
the '77-'78 HDs they are. Now if only Harley would make a modern
version... They've talked about it, but, well, you know.

I believe that the bike he races is a disguised (paint job) Katana 1100.

I haven't seen the movie, but in the Dennis Kirk catalog, Tracy sells a
fairing for the sportster and the FXR which is a replica of the fairing
in the flick. It says that Tracy designed all of the bodywork for the
movie. (Actually, for the bikes.)

I think it's a H-D 883 Sportster. Could be wrong.

Ok, this is from the source: Harley davidson of New York, on
Northern Blvd in Queens.
The bike used in the movie started out as a '89 Sporty. They
added the seat, tank, fairing, bars, and pipes to resemble a XLCR.
Two points of trivia here. 1) they were asked to ask to "age"
the bike; added "rust", and a tear in the seat. 2) The bike sold for
around $8000 after the movie was finished. Apparently it was rented.

after watching the movie repeatedly (I actually liked it) I finally got
a good glimpse of both bikes in question. Douglas' is the Harley Cafe Racer
from previous discussions. The other is a GSX-R though I can't tell whether
it's the 750 or 1100. The paint is standard Red, White, and Black from the
'86 - '88 (?) years. I believe it is a 750, though the rider handle's it
like an 1100. In the environment that they raced, one could see why Douglas
won.

Thanks for the info. I like being right... :-)

Do you know if they did anything to the motor? The bike seemed to
spin the rear rather easily...

Ladies and Gentlemens;

It was my privilege to have been hosted by the Boulder Colorado
DoD/rec.motorcycles members (an admireably together group)this past Friday
evening. I thought a hearty thank-you was in order, and a brief synopsis
of the evenings events to encourage further inter-state denizen gatherings.

We started out at Lazlo's church group meeting place, Saint Mary's
of the Holy Trinity. All of the denizens were well recieved by the group,
and many prayers were said on our behalf. Father Doug Elwood presided over
the ceremony; it was all rather lovely. Not having had a full dinner yet;
we then went to the Boulder Tea and Crumpet House at the suggestion of Dave
Tharp, and had some delicious finger sandwiches and fruit cups. Dave knows
the chef there so we got some really special selections when it was time
for desert. Me and Deborah Parks shared the Strawberry Swirl Parfait; it
was rather lovely as well.

Although it was getting a bit late ( almost 8:45 p.m. ) they all
wanted to show me the heart of downtown Boulder. Mr. Blackjack Reed and
Mr. Johnathan Sloan led the way to the Boulder Christian Science Reading
Room right in the heart of dowtown Boulder. Lazlo had some articles he had
wanted to share with us about Creationism vs. the dogma of Evolutionism.
It seamed like the discussion went on for half the night! We stayed there
til well past 11 p.m. and had to be asked to leave as they were closing!!
(Yup; we "closed the place down" as they say!!! Or is it shut???)

I was pooped out at that point and needed time to reflect on all
of the insightful happenings of the night. I returned to my hotel; the
Boulder Christian Hostile, and turned in.

Thank-you all for showing me a lovely evening, and I'll be sure
to get in touch should I ever be fortunate enough to return to your area
of the country. It is truely beautiful in Boulder, and you are truely
beautiful people.

Again, my heartfelt thanks;

And what I want to know is - What REALLY HAPPENED? Maybe someone with

of "Tod's (our answer to Dan Quayle) way cool adventure". He's hasn't
said a peepsince he got back, except for his post. What did you people

Ladies and Gentlemen;

On behalf of myself and the Boulder conglomerate of rec.motorcycle
enthusiasts, I strongly RESENT the insinuation that four or five of us
went to a strip club called the Bustop, played several games of pool (which
I came out ahead 4 games to 2 by the way), that we watched numerous fabulous
babes take thier clothes off and make all sorts of stretching movements
that you don't normally see fabulous babes do; that shots were had, that
vomitting took place, and now we have to mail belongings across the country!!

IT'S ALL A FUCKING LIE!!!!! Now stop all this. We went to church group and
thats the end of it.

Sincerely;
