I think that there is a used Tiger over at BMW Santa Cruz. It's a demo
unit. Also, I think there's a review of the Tiger vs the BMW equivalent
in one of the on-line commercial sites, like WWW.MOTORCYLE.COM. Other
than that, I've got no input. You should know though, that prices were
cut considerably for the '97's. You may be able to get a new '97
cheaper than a used '96.

I wish some of my fellow Americans would get interested real quick,
though. The relatively small number of these bikes drives the price up
too high. I wouldn't mind having a Honda TransAlp, or BMW's
dual-purpose version of the Boxer, or even the Funduro. But, alas, it
is not meant to be.
No me gusta.

You must be kidding right? Tiger's are about the cheapest of the new Triumphs
you can buy over here. Exceptionally clean ones are selling for $7500 and less
sometimes. Bought mine for $8000 last year. Perfect condition with all sorts of
$$ extras.

You can buy my Transalp.

I _may_ have to cry here. When I looked for used Tigers here in Finland
I
managed to find one, and the guy wanted 98000 finnish marks for it. For
you
currency-exchange-rate-challenged that comes out to about $20000...
Guess I
won't be owning a Triumph anytime soon!

Here's a thought for you.
Have you ever wanted to see the U.S.? Take a trip here, buy a Tiger
here and break it in on a riding trip.
After your trip, ship it to Finland!
So, $1500 for the airfare, another $2000 for lodging, food, and misc.,
say $11,500 for the Tiger, and $500 to ship it back.
After you ride it for a while in Finland, you sell it and make a profit!
Then the following year, you can go to another destination and repeat
the process.

Hi Kimmo!
Here's a thought for you.
Have you ever wanted to see the U.S.? Take a trip here, buy a Tiger
here and break it in on a riding trip.
After your trip, ship it to Finland!
So, $1500 for the airfare, another $2000 for lodging, food, and

The reasoning certainly seems sound, at first glance. Problem is all
the
import costs, duties, taxes and other such indecent things that the
Finnish government thinks we all deserve. Basically, I'd be paying
in tolls and such about as much as the bike cost over there in the US.
$500 might cover the transit costs, true. Then start adding 22% in
tax, assorted other fees attached to all motor vehicle imports etc
(probably about 50% of the sales price of the bike in the US) and
wham, the price is about what it would be if I bought it here.
Granted, I'd get to see some of the US as a bonus, so it might be
worth doing just for that.
Either way, the way my finances look right about now, I couldn't even
afford the trip, to say nothing of the bike itself once I got there! =)
I think I'll have to settle for something more in my price range, like a
mid-eighties jap 750 or something along those lines.

Paying taxes, duties, and other imposts like that explains it all!
You got my sympathy. I thought the U.S. was bad about that, but I
tend to forget just how bad some countries can be.
Good luck, Kimmo. Here's hoping some day you'll be well enough off
to buy anything you like - and damn the taxes!

Are you telling us that your socialist regime doesn't provide every citizen
with a Triumph of their choice? What a shocker.
(hang on, could it be Sshveeden that I was thinking of?)
Brian--lots of folks do just that. Had a friend (AF Pilot) loved
Porsches, used to buy them auf Deutschland, drive em, ship em back to
the US to pay for his vacation, drive it for a year, then repeat the
process. With exchange rates, import duties and now emissions, it may
not be practical to do this these days, but he did for years and years.

Nope... no free Triumphs. That would be Utopia, two doors down. This
is Finland. Sorry!
