LANCASTER • Mayor R. Rex Parris emerged from a closed City Council
session Tuesday night to warn townspeople that the Mongols outlaw
motorcycle gang intended to occupy a Sierra Highway hotel during the
weekend but that he would take action to close the establishment and
block the motorcyclists with a heavy Sheriff's Department presence.
"The Mongols are the ones that had the gang fight with the Hells
Angels in Laughlin, and there were murders there," Parris said in a
telephone interview with the Valley Press late Tuesday night. "They
are a bad gang, and we are not going to become a recreational area for
outlaw motorcycle gangs ever."
The mayor's announcement included a promise to close the Desert Inn,
one of the Valley's longest-serving hotel-resorts, in the event that
the establishment proceeded with plans to play host to the biker gang.

Mayor R. Rex Parris has moved to shut down a local motel that had
agreed to accommodate the bikers during an annual meeting this
weekend.
Determined to prevent the Mongols motorcycle club from using a
Lancaster motel to host its annual meeting this weekend, the city's
mayor has taken steps to shut down the establishment.
Mayor R. Rex Parris said the members of the Mongols, which law
enforcement agencies consider a violent biker gang, are not welcome in
Lancaster because they "are engaged in domestic terrorism . . . and
they kill our children."
Parris said owners of the Desert Inn, whom the Mongols had agreed to
pay more than $16,000 for the use of 113 rooms, the banquet hall,
restaurant and bar, had been in violation of several regulations, such
as being late on paying transient occupancy taxes.
Parris said that the city had been working with the Desert Inn over
the last several months to try to help it stay in business. But when
the city asked that the motel renege on hosting the Mongols, he said,
the owners would not comply.
The owners of the motel did not return calls for comment.
Albert Perez Jr., a Los Angeles-based attorney retained by the
Mongols, said his clients were expecting a full refund and would take
legal action if the motel reopened Monday, which he said would confirm
why the motel was shut down.
The Mongols still plan to go to Lancaster for a Friday night street
fair and have found alternative accommodations. He declined to say
where.
"They're upset because they're getting a bad rap," Perez said.

LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) - The Mongols biker gang has been fenced out of
a Mojave Desert motel where hundreds of motorcyclists were destined
for a weekend rendezvous.
City officials shut down the Desert Inn and installed chain-link
fencing at the entrances yesterday to block the Lancaster biker
meeting. The 144-room motel has a $16,000 contract to provide weekend
space and rooms for up to 300 Mongols for their annual meeting.
The city used a tax case to shut down the motel. City Manager mark
Bozigian said Desert Inn owner Hui Su is past due on $180,000 in hotel
bed tax payments.
Mayor R. Rex Parris this week said the gang was not welcome in
Lancaster because they "are engaged in domestic terrorism ... and they
kill our children." He says the motel owner refused to comply when he
asked him to renege on the contract.
Los Angeles County sheriff's Capt. Axel Anderson says closing the
Desert Inn helps ensure public safety.
Mongols lawyer Albert Perez Jr. says a lawsuit is planned. He adds the
Mongols still plan to visit Lancaster for a street fair on Friday
night but would find an alternate location for their weekend meeting.

If the hotel is in financial trouble, highly likely seeing as how Lancaster
isn't much of a tourist spot, why the drama over the Mongols? For a brawl
that happened years ago?
I'm a little surprised over their choice. A shitload of cops live in
Lancaster, a lot more than on the local PD or prison. A lot of these cops
participated in the recent raids on the Mongols. Lancaster is the last
place they would go, I'd say.

from Lancaster. Bars closed, Naval base secured the main gate, men brought
their livestock into the barns, and they never showed.
