I don't care if they're pricey -- I just care that they aren't likely to
screw it up.
Related question: what is the best method for shipping? Pallets look
pretty safe, but maybe I'm missing something.
Thanks.
Forward Air has specially-designed pallets for shipping motorcycles.

Does anyone have a pic of a bike on(in?) a pallet?
>Can anyone recommend a company they've had good experience with or have
We ship bikes inside the country (not the US) fairly often.
A used new bike crate is $100 or so including packing the bike.
Shipping is $100-$200 for a similar distance by trucking carrier.
A dealership in the area the bike is being shipped from would probably
do it.
Have it shipped to a local dealer where you live who wiull probably
charge you $50-$100 to uncrate it.

It may be that your sole purpose in life
is to serve as a warning to others.
What Polarhound said. Forward Air.
About $400.
I've used ForwardAir to ship about eight or nine motorcycles all over
the country. I like the all-steel, completely enclosed containers. I
like the fact that they are open on both ends, so you can roll the
bike in forwards, and roll it out forwards. I like the fact that I
get to load (and/or unload) the bike myself. I like the fact that MY
locks are on the container, and MY tie-downs are securing the bike. I
like the fact that I can put a half gallon of gas into the bike when
it arrives, and ride it away, if I want to.
ForwardAir's prices are about $150-$200 more expensive than they were
when I first started using them about five or six years ago, but I'm
still sticking with them.

I like getting free locks and tie downs when the seller ships via forward
air!
I now have 4 locks and 2 extra sets of tie downs.
