What I'd like to see is a bike with an MGM setup; ie a conventional
motor driving a generator. Wires would supply power to hub motor(s)
in the drive wheel(s). That means I could have all-wheel drive
on my sidecar rig for better winter traction. The mechanical
transmission/clutch/drive train would be eliminated. This could
result in a weight saving.
My first thought would be to retain the hand throttle, clutch lever
and gear pedal arrangement that I'm used to and simulate their
functions electrically under software control.
For instance disengaging the "clutch" could interrupt current
to the generator's field winding so as to stop power output
while letting the motor rev up.

I dunno, even for a scooter/moped it looks kinda "80's gay" ie only a
geek would ride it and all the other riders would pick on him/her.
Works on frieght trains :-)
More appealing?
