The Poms had 5 killed by a 'policeman' in Afghanistan, now US soldiers
shot at their base.....the enemy within. :(

With muslims in our Military, what if a patrol is sent out and your son
is in the patrol. And right beside him is a muslim, who might shoot him
in the back. "I got your back" is a dangerous situtation today...

The guy that shot up the base in Texas is an American, not that it
makes any difference to the people that were gunned down. :-(

The same argument was made about Japanese in the US military in WWII. They
turned out to be the best soldiers in the whole damned Army.

Why would an American who happens to adhere to Islam be more likely to shoot
a fellow soldier in the back than any other soldier?

Don't know much about soldiers do you? Now that NCO a couple of years
ago...that nice muslim just plain snapped and somebody should have
noticed and dealt with it before it became an issue. i.e. get him to
mental health but did they? Nooo, smart asses just ran him into the
ground.

Now why don't you zip up your pants boy and be silent about that which
you know fuck all.

I've heard many a Pastor refer to Jesus as the "Prince Of Peace", but
with Bush having publicly stated that "God told him to invade Iraq",
Muslims have no claim to hypocritical primacy in the field of mass
murder.

The US soldier was a psychiatrist, wasn't he? Sort of reinforces every
prejudice I've ever had about shrinks.

<Thinks>

Of course, given the US military's ability to clobber things besides
the target, it's quite possible he was trying to knock down a few
ducks.

Because they're conflicted between their religion and their country.

I have a couple of theories related to healthcare professionals and
their choices in areas of specialization:

1) You pick what has affected you personally in some way. As an
example, I've had my clock cleaned in an airplane crash. So where do I
work? Orthopedics. Been there, done that... know what they're going
through. Identify/empathize with them.

Draw your own conclusions about what attracts psychiatrists to crazy people.

2) We are socialized by those we are surrounded by. You will note every
group, be they cops, motorcyclists, nurses, pilots, firemen, whatever...
have their own specialized language, techniques, and attitudes about
things. You hang around a bunch of cops and pretty soon you talk like
them, think like them and act like them. Same for nurses. Same for
crazy people.

If you hang around crazy people long enough, you'll start to sound like
them, act like them, be like them. How can you not?

YMMV.

Or cops, to criminals....

In pursuing the mental disciplines, you are warned at
some point that learning what's behind some of
the tricks of the trade can make them ineffective
on you... in the immortal words of Rev. Ivan Stang,
"You can't think your own brain".

italians of irish descent
germans of english descent
israeli's of ethiopian descent etc....

True.

You'll notice that of those you list, 3 of them are doing very
very well here in America, and it's the three that in fact do NOT
self-identify as 'xxx-american'.

To your list, of course we must add :

Hispanic-American

Israelis are a citizen of a country. The dominant religion is Judaism.
The dominant race is Caucasian. Being dominant is not the same as
being exclusive.

Being Jewish is a religious/tradition/historical sort of thing rather
than racial.

Ah yes, they would be from the Gallic invasion of Rome in 386 BC.
There were, of course, some Irish Celtic adventurers amongst them.
The Romans weren't the only ones to move on the Sabine women.

Since most of the English are of German descent I'm sensing
some kind of redundancy here...

Many Jews will disagree with you on that. I know people who have never
darkened the door of a synagogue and who love their bacon who nonetheless
consider themselves to be Jews.

Disagree on what? Perhaps it's a confusion about the meaning of a
"/".
<hint: it is not necessarily +>

There are sephardic and ashkenazi Jews - which are very different
ethnic backgrounds. It has also been possible to convert to Judaism
for a very long time, which means there can be many more ethnic
backgrounds added to the Jewish "blood."

As was pointed out, Israel is a nation which includes Jews, Moslems,
Christians, Druze, and a few others, I'm sure.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but last I hear one was an orthadox Jew only if
born of a Jewish mother. That's pretty racial.

Yes, there are a lot of non-religious Jews. It's like someone who describes
themselves as a "non practicing Catholic". They don't believe in the rules but
want to maintain a sense of connection to their heritage.
