According to Cycle News, Doug Polen and HRC have parted ways. Doug is
slated to ride a private 955 at Laguna.

Allright! Back on a winning machine. He'll probably win the AMA
championship this year. No more RC45.

This is a one time shot for Doug. The bike he is riding belongs to Pridmore.
Pridmore was injured and will be out for awhile, don't know how long. Farracci
is doing everything he can to get Doug a ride for the year. You have to realize
that contracts are signed in December. A little late for now. This might be Doug's
only race of the year. We'll see what turns up.

Good point, Pridmore's bike that Doug is riding is the same bike that Doug
won the '92 WSB Championship with the latest updates. I think it has a 916.
The Ducati is a better handling machine than the Honda. The RC45 would twitch,
slip and come on the power band at about 12,000 rpms, which makes it hard to
get a rhythm and stay on the track. Doug FINISHED every race last year and did
not go off the track at Daytona this year like some other Honda riders did.

The Ducati has a short wheel base for great handling and a smooth power band for
stability in the turns. If you can't transmit the power to the track you are not
going anywhere.

Getting back on the Duck will be good for Doug.

Don't think so. I believe it's an 888 with a 955 motor. That's what
Ferracci ran last year.

Assuming that a) This Duck is up to Farracci standards, and b) That

Doug still is in the groove, how many points is he now behind? Can he
realisticly still take the #1 plate?

Though I'm a died (red) in-the-wool Ducatisti I have to admit: The
RC-45s are running great this year; the Ducatis only so-so. Doug is
have his work cut out for him!

Hi,

I am excited to see Doug's brother here in the news group. I just
wonder if Doug really explained to you why he left Honda and why in the
beginning he decided to leave Ducati for Honda ?

I still missed his excellent performance in '92 WSB...

Well to tell you the truth I found out about this change here on the
news group. I used to keep up with this news group while at work, but
more responsibilities reduced my net time. Now Texas A&M has PPP modem
lines, so I can connect to the Internet at home with my 28.8. Cool deal.

I called my dad after reading the news and I can't say much, but I can't
say that Doug left honda by choice. Politics, ya know.

When Doug started road racing, he like many rider have a dream of one
day racing for HRC. This is the a big time achievement and Doug was very
excited. It's a shame that it didn't pan out like he wanted it to. I don't
want to talk about specifics of why he left Ducati, but it was many little
things that were adding up and frustrating Doug. No bridges were burned
with Ferracci as you could see by him riding a Fast by Ferracci Ducati at
Laguna.

I don't know the specifics of the Laguna race, but one thing I have noticed
about Doug is the rain tends to get to him. In the past he would ride Balls
to the Wall in the rain. He now rides more conservative. You have to remember
that this was not his bike, he has no definite plans for the season, as in a
ride to win the Championship and this was a one time shot given to him by Ferracci,
so why take the risk in the rain.

If the Kocinski rumor is a fact, by all means, I believe you. I really really
feel sorry for him. His bad performance last season really surprised me.
Maybe his incompetitive RC45 was to blame. Did Doug have any explanation
of his poor performance last season ?

I really missed the combination of Ducati and Polen. I hope I can see him
riding with Fogarty and fights for the Championship this seaon. Anyway,
whatever team he is, I just want to see him ahead of other riders in
the races.
