CNN and ITN were reporting last night that there was a fatal
accident at the Liege 24-Hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. Apparently
a race official stepped onto the track to retrieve some debris and was
hit by the Kawasaki of English rider, Lee Pullan, who was reportedly
travelling at 250 km/h. Both men died "almost instantly".

We had a terrible race day in Toronto as well. An Indycar driver and an
official were killed instantly during the Toronto Indycar race.

Both men died "almost DF> instantly". I heard this on the radio. _VERY_ sad at any time - and in such a "stupid" fashion, even worse! For those in the UK reading this group, it's a terrible season.....1 at Oulton Park, 4 at the IOM, and now Lee. And three "well known", "big name" riders for that matter. Not that that makes ANY difference in the real world, but it emphasises our (the sport's) loss..... Lee seemed to be "on the up" - a great talent and just getting the recognition, sponsorship, etc that might have propelled him far far higher..... This has really flattened my mood when I should be looking forward to (as I told the unappreciaters at Silverstone yesterday) _THE_ Grand Prix at Donnington this w/e. I had nothing to do there - I hope this remains the same at Donnington - there's been too much disaster this year..... Here's hoping for a some great, safe, racing.....I want to watch, not work!!! (he added selfishly.....) Cheers! Toby Branfoot ###### toby.b...@almac.co.uk ###### * RM 1.3 U0414 * There's no sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway

Lee's death was indeed a tragic loss (and the second one for Phase One
this year) - he was a talented rider who was having some of the best
rides of his career this year.

Thanks to all those who sent messages of sympathy to Phase One via
BikeNet - I've passed them on to Russell Benney.
