MASSIVE SADNESS I've just heard that Mick Lofthouse and Rob Holden have been killed! Both at the TT - Rob at Glen Helen, Mick at the 23rd Milestone. Don't know what happened or anything more than that - hoping it's not true.....but..... This is awful - anyone getting killed is bad but two great racers..... Sympathies..... Cheers! I read this yesterday on BBC Ceefax service. Today I read on Ceefax
that Holden was the leading qualifier in Formula 1, and Lofthouse was
in the top ten in the junior or something.

This seemed to be in bad taste to me, unless the original information
was wrong, but unfortunately I doubt that.

Best Regards

Correction - the information is still there today!!

Holden top qualifier in singles. Lofthouse top qualifier in
Lightweight.

Their deaths were, however, mentioned on Radio 1 news.

JM> Subject: Re: Holden & Lofthouse Killed I have fewer memories of Rob - but he was on the Britten the year I was involved in Mark Farmers accident on Glen Helen who was riding the other - and superbly they were running - but he's one of those names that's all so familiar.....was he riding a lot of endurance events? Can anyone remind me where else his career was especially successful? But Mick has been a much more familiar sight - he was wonderful to watch at Oulton Park earlier this season - watching him racing with Phelim Owens, diving through Knickerbrook at apparently ludicrous speeds in the late afternoon sunshine from the observers post just above the apex - a great memory. I know the Island is something else.....but this is a great loss for us this year. (Not Much) Cheer..... Oh no! Our news-server was sick all weekend and this has only just
arrived. Rob was a friend while he was in Vancouver. Damn!
