(To the folks I informed of my fathers accident the same night, this
is unrelated. My father looks like he is going to be ok. Broken arm,
shoulder, ribs and a collapsed lung. But his brain and spine are ok.
Fucking deer he hit got up and took off without missing a beat. For
his birthday Im going to get my dad a deer whistle mounted on a
baseball hat.)

The owner of two Birmingham pet stores was taken into custody and
questioned Sunday after police said he left the scene of a traffic
accident that left the driver of a motorcycle dead, Mountain Brook
police said.

Louie Edward Cosby, 47, was driving a white convertible involved in
the wreck on U.S. 280 at the Mountain Brook Inn around noon Sunday,
said Mountain Brook patrol Sgt. Ed Reynolds.

Cosby owns Ed's Pet World stores in Homewood and Calera.

Cosby's lawyer Tommy Spina said his client was held by Mountain Brook
police for seven hours after the accident.

Spina said Cosby's car was in the U.S. 280 median in front of the inn
and Cosby was not aware his vehicle had been struck by the motorcycle.

"He did not know there had been an impact," Spina said.

Late Sunday, authorities had not released the name of the motorcycle
driver who was killed, pending notification of his next of kin.

Mountain Brook patrol Sgt. Ed Gates said witnesses told police a white
convertible was pulling out of the Mountain Brook Inn about 12:15 p.m.
when it collided with a motorcycle traveling east on U.S. 280.

Gates said witnesses told police the driver of the convertible might
have gotten out of his car before leaving the scene.

About three hours later, a white convertible sitting on top of a
flat-bed wrecker was brought back to the scene of the wreck.

Police said the white convertible was found at Ed's Pet World after
witnesses to the wreck followed the car to the Homewood pet store.

Jerry McGaha of Winfield was at the Mountain Brook Inn Sunday for a
convention.

McGaha said he and others were looking out a hotel window shortly
after the wreck occurred. "I saw the guy in the white car stop and
walk toward the median," McGaha said. "He got back in his car and
drove off."

I will keep RMH apprised of what happens.

How?
Sound system set at about 7.0 on the Richter scale?
Bombed out of his gourd?
The bike just barely clipped his bumper and went flying and he failed to notice?

Or, he's lying through his teeth?
