I've got Dairyland Insurance and when I got whacked by a car they
covered my custom paint, my aftermarket fender & tank, and all my
chrome. They never questioned it. It was actually pretty funny. I had
to get an "estimate" of how much it would cost to repaint it. I had
originally painted it myself but had to come up with another name. I
had them call my brother, an automotive painter for as long as I can
remember--literally, and he said "oh $600." We split a 12 pack and sat
around one Saturday painting it at his work using the leftover paint
from the first time I did it and split the money!

Aw shit; that *stinks*. How did Bambi fare?

I think that's pretty much standard with most insurance -- house, car,
motorcycle, whatever -- to replace what was lost with the basic
equivalace unless you purchace a rider for the "special" stuff. It
keeps the price of insurance down, so I'm in favor of that policy (pun
intended ;^)
To keep things *really* inexpensive, I carry only the minimum liability
insurance required by the state on my motorcycles. I'm self-insured for
the rest. That is, if I crash, my coverage for replacing the bits that
are damaged comes out of my own account. I see it as extra incentive to
never go down.

Checked with my insurance, State Farm. They'll cover anything you got
a reciept for. I got reciepts for everything I've ever bolted on this
bike.

Remember, "No good deed goes unpunished".
Huh, I found out after insuring my new bike that my old bike had just
shit insurance. American Family decided that stock baggers are
in reality not stock - if you crash - your bags are not
covered - period. I road this way - four years - and almost trashed
them once - thanks to the guards - no big $$ damage.
I had to add extra coverage and am paying $500.00+/year for my FLHRI.
Check your baggage often!!!
