Well, I'm not Dana, but I did spend most of my 20-late 30's going
through about 5-6 "screamers" a month. Thankfully, I seemed to
have grown out of them for the most part. The Oxygen/fresh air
could do wonders for easing the pain. I got one really bad migraine
on a flight from Baltimore to Mpls. and it was getting to be pretty
serious, so I begged the flight attendant to let me have a go at
an emergency oxygen bottle. It worked wonders, especially
in the pressurized cabin. My ex used to think I was just nuts as
I'd do stuff like pass out on the bedroom floor in the middle of
winter, with my head stuck out the window or sliding door, but
hey, when you're in that kinda pain, it's either that or you start
thinking about if you might be able to crawl far enought to the
closet to get the gun.. Most folk don't realise how bad the
pain can get.
For folks that can afford one, the little 1,5 and 10lb oxygen
bottles you can buy are handy to have if your "lifestyle" will
allow for it. Just about impossible if you have to do air travel,
etc. though. I wonder what would happen with an Oxygen-
Nitrous mix?... Most of the big narcotics given for migraine
don't do anything for the pain, they just make it so that you
don't seem to care about it as much, kinda like how the
Nitrous works.. Hmmm...

Sorry, Spunky, I missed the orignal so I'm piggybacking.

Actually, that article was just posted to the migraine group. I'm
going to go read it now.
ok. Good article. I did know about normobaric oxygen being used to
treat cluster headaches, but didn't know about the hyperbaric oxygen
being tried. I wonder if Michael Jackson still has his hyperbaric
chamber? Maybe I'll go look on ebay. I don't have clusters,
fortunately.

huh. Andrzej has been talking about getting one of those emergency ox
bottles, the little ones, for scuba diving. I wonder how much they
cost.. Might be worth checking out, but I think they have a pretty
minimal supply.

Well, you just descibed it perfectly. I'm having a hypertension
episode of some kind, and can't take any migraine meds for the next
month while we get BP under control. I can do without salt, I can do
without caffeine, but this just SUCKS.

Pretty much how I feel right now. Can't have the triptans, the stuff
that actually treats the headache, but I can have the narcotics. Which
is great, it's better than nothing, but I'd really like to have my
life back.

Well, might be worth talking to your doc about it. I know that
Senior's, etc. rent them rather than own, but they can't be
too horribly expensive.. We had literally thousands of pounds
of all sorts of gases at the laser shop I worked at, about
half of it Oxygen that we used for welding. I rigged up my
own rig from an emergency breather that we had to keep
around and I'd give myself a bit of a boost now and then
at the end of a long day.. You just wanna make sure that
it's really Oxygen in the tank!!

Wow, that does sound pretty brutal, so sorry!!

I have no idea what's offered at dive shops, I would have to think
that they do have some Oxygen/mixes of some sorts. You're still
in Canada aren't you? I got a guy down in Victoria that takes
care of the gas supplies at their DND labs. I gotta think that
we have at least one or two big natl. gas suppliers here that
will sell/rent/lease home and portable tanks, and I'm going
to be in the market for some myself now that I have my lasers
up here finally. Too bad they run on helium and Co2/nitro..
I'll try and dig up some info that's useful up here..

Yeah, I was thinking that. Looking and Andrzej's welder and wondering
which tank was which. Don't think I'm going to 'speriment.

Yep. still in Canada. I see doc about every 10 minutes so I'm going to
talk to him about the O2 thing, thanks.
I actually got out for a ride yesterday, for the first time this year.
How pathetic is that? Beautiful day, short ride. Belle ran perfectly,
as she always does. <sigh> Maybe I'll get out sometime this week
again, but right now I don't have enough energy to even brush my
teeth.

Its the tall bottle on a cutting rig turn it on and grab the lever on
the hot end.

uh, yeah. I'm thinking this is a bad idea. I'll check out the dive
shop and the local medical supply places. But thanks, now I know which
one is the stinky one.
I've started using O2 in my brewing and believe it or not, most welding
cylinders are filled with the same grade O2 as medical. The big diff
is how it's filled. Mostly whether the cylinder is purged between
fills or not.

Right. I'm in research mode now.
