this year I managed to turn 40 at Sturgis :-) quite a long way from home (I
live in Italy), but worth it.
I just come back from a very long vacation, and now can comment on the
rally.
I quickly read some post discussing the "value" of the rally, but maybe
people living in US see it just another, bigger rally.
I was in the Broken Spoke Saloon looking at the *world* (not just te US one)
map, and at the beginning of the rally it was already filled with pins; I
wondered what it would have been by the end of the rally...
To me, and to many many people I've been talking to, Sturgis is the bikers'
Mecca - you must make it at least once in your life.
Actually it isn't different from any other rally, just bigger - but it's THE
rally, probably the only world-class rally. At one point I stopped taking
pictures, since I realized that what I was enjoying more was being just
there among other bikers, and I couldn't capture it with my camera. That is
different from other rallies, although I bought the same stuff :-)
I liked seeing the event building up already 500 miles away from sturgis,
which is quite a long distance for our (crowded) standards.
I liked everything I saw on my way to and in sturgis, and this was a trip to
remember.
I expecially liked riding alone in the windy praire, without the helmet
(helmet law has been enforced across all europe for years now :-( ) and with
Billy Idol playing on the bike's CD player - for the brief moment of a song
I was 20 again :-))
Good riding to you all
Carlo

Therein the point. It is not a destination, it is the journey. The place
is merely an excuse for a ride, be it to Sturgis, or anywhere else.

Everybody's got something to hide,
except for me and my monkey!
>Therein the point. It is not a destination, it is the journey.
Of course yer right, but that fuckin line stand the hair on th' back
of m' neck straight up ever since some goddam ditz IBM saleswoman used
it (over and over and over) trying to sell me the latest and greatest
mainframe some, what, 30 years ago. (I doubt she's ever found out
what that sentiment really means.)
Some things are hard to shake.
Good report. Thanks for posting. You've got a great attitude.
Well, get over it. I know you get it, as do a great number of others here.
It's time we take back some of the great expressions co-opted by the
marketing folks at various organizations, and ignore the bullshit spin
they applied to them.

Proudly in a "same sex marriage",
Sex with the same woman all the time!
Thanks #^____^#
Dunno if I'll ever get that high again - it really meant something to me.
I got a sense of freedom never experienced before - if it's the journey, not
te destination, than I had some "inside" journey as well :-)
C.
Then again, most of the digital pics posted from our
happy little group are those of fine folks sitting around
BSing and eating and drinking at the destination rather
than pics of the journey there and back again. <g>

I'm lucky to remember to take the disposable out and snap a few during
the debauchery. No way I'm gonna have m' wits about me to catch pix
on th' fly (tho I recall Andr#%&* has been doing that as long as I've
known him. And axually, that's a pretty long time, come to think of
it.
Besides, for me both the destination *and* the journey are nicely
tucked away for future recall in the one place I need them most.
Have you checked out Papaboops pics from the EKIII
run?

Have always enjoyed viewing Papaboop's pics
as he takes you along on the journey as well as
the destination. Can't get much better than that.
He'll have even more pics when he retires next
year. Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
