How to Flash BIOS from a USB Drive
BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a firmware that controls the basic functions of your motherboard, such as booting, hardware configuration, and power management. Sometimes, you may need to update your BIOS to fix bugs, improve compatibility, or enhance performance. One of the easiest and safest ways to do this is by using a USB flash drive and a utility program called EZ Flash.

In this article, we will show you how to flash BIOS from a USB drive using EZ Flash on ASUS motherboards. This method does not require you to enter the Windows operating system, which can reduce the risk of BIOS update failure due to system instability or interference. However, before you proceed, please make sure you have backed up all your important data and followed the preparation steps below.

Preparation

Get your system specs. You need to know your motherboard model, manufacturer, and BIOS version/date. You can find this information by pressing the Windows key and typing "msinfo", then clicking the system app that shows up. Note down the information near "BaseBoard Product", "BaseBoard Manufacturer", and "BIOS Version/Date".
Insert a USB flash drive into your computer. The USB flash drive should have at least 1GB of free space and be formatted in FAT16/32 format.
Download the latest BIOS file corresponding to your motherboard model from ASUS Download Center[^1^]. Enter your model name in the search box and click on Driver & Utility. Then click on BIOS & FIRMWARE and select the required BIOS version to download. Save the file to your USB flash drive and unzip it if necessary. You should see a .CAP file in the root directory of the USB flash drive. This is the BIOS update file.
Restart your computer and access the BIOS page by pressing the Del key or F2 key when you see the ASUS logo. If you don't see these keys, try other function keys (e.g., F12) or Esc key.

Update BIOS

When you enter the BIOS page, press F7 or click Advanced Mode with your mouse to enter the advanced mode.
Click on Tools and then click on ASUS EZ Flash 3 Utilities.
Select your USB flash drive from the list of drives and click on the BIOS file that you want to update.
Click YES to confirm the BIOS information and start the update process.
Wait for the progress bar to complete and click OK when it shows up. Your computer will reboot automatically to finish the update.

Tips and Warnings

Do not turn off your computer or remove the USB flash drive while the BIOS is updating. Doing so can cause the BIOS to become corrupted and prevent your computer from booting up.
If you encounter any problems during or after the BIOS update, please contact ASUS support for assistance.
EZ Flash is a utility program designed for ASUS motherboards. If you have a different motherboard brand or model, please refer to its user manual or website for instructions on how to flash BIOS from a USB drive.
