Go Eddie!
Nice little report Traci. When you put your manifold on did you make sure
the "face" was 90° from horizontal? With bike upright of course, oh erm well
in the hack case I guess that pretty much a given. Anyway, check this first,
if it's not square it will fuck up your float level among other things.
Thanks for the virtual ride, got out myself yesterday and it was wonderful
overcast 70° 8 ).

Yeah but Sybil won't let Bear & Bill G. touch her jugs.
Good job Traci, Bear & Bill. Look forward to riding with youse guys come
spring.
Yup, that was my first thought. It's easy to fix though. Just loosen but
don't remove the manifold clamps and you should be able to push down on the
top of the carb. You should be able to eyeball the carb to se if it's
level. Then tighten up the clamps. There isn't a lot of room between the
top of the air cleaner cover and the bottom of the two-piece style tanks
(especially the 5 gal. setup) but you shouldn't need a washer or shim
anything to get the air cleaner cover on.

It actually hit 70 yesterday unfortunately it was pouring.

Yup, I checked and double checked. We put a level on it too. Never fit like
this before. No way I rode with the carb tipped for 3 years. Like you said,
the float level would have been all fucked up, and I would have had way more
problems than smoking. Hmm..
Shirley a round for the house while I ponder this.
It's not the jugs, and we put the same Super B (manifold etc) back on. Only
other thing I can think of is the tank. the *thick washer* I cobbed into the
air cleaner looks suspiciously like the .531" ID washer for the rear of the
tank. I'll check that out in a bit, and get back with findings.
Or to check for other suggestions. <g>

Sweet! The weather gods are seriously confused up here. It's supposed to be
in the 60's today. The week before Thanksgiving. Bizarre.
But, I'm not complaining!
> MaGGie
What's this?? I don't like wobbling!
I don't think the fairing has anything to do with any wobble, especially at 30 mph.
Before or after you filled the tire??
How about the adjustable steering dampener on top of the forks?
And of course, a concern I expressed when we were putting the hack back on...
How about alignment, castor, camber, of the hack wheel in relation to the bike?
We did drop the u-bolts from the rear hook up point on the hack. Just raising or
lowering that point a few degrees would change the tilt \ or | or / of the wheel
on the hack. We did nothing to change the toe-in or toe-out.
Don't take this 'wobble' lightly, please!

We actually put a level on the frame to make sure it was vertical, and used the level
again on the face of the carb to make sure it was plumb (perpendicular) with the
bike.
It may not have been perpendicular before we tore it down. If the carb had been
leaning down and the float level 'was' fucked up, could that have made the bike run rich? Because it 'was' running very rich before we tore it down.
The air cleaner was rubbing (a little) on the gas tank before we tore it down.
We may need to try and move the gas tank to the highest slack point on the mounting
bolts, instead of it's lowest slack point... if that makes any sense.
NO Traci! You can't use the BFH method of repair/fitment... <sfsf>

There should be a bracket from the rocker box to the air cleaner to
support the carb. Please do not rely on the clamps to support your carb.
S&S has a notched filter cover to clear 5 gal tanks, or you could notch

Is it possible the manifold is upside down? Maybe it has a slight
nearly unnoticeable bend to aim the face perpendicular to the ground.
He'll fit in there better than I did, but I bet I still

Everything I've seen about 'em says they have a tendency to wobble at low

*Butt* it didn't have a wobble _before_ we tore it down and now it does, and that

Have you measured the toe-in? Moving the mounts may have changed it just
enough to make the difference.

Well if you're taking off the S&S it won't work for long. I have a
notched cover for the S&S air cleaner that I really don't need. Would
trade for a non-notched one.

Yea, yea <g>
I've been talking about the cv for a couple years, but I'm getting getting
used to the B. I'll take you up on that trade! Send me an address and I'll
send this one out, and some cash to cover shipping.

I double and triple checked. Everything is ok there!
