Thanks
Nope but I will say *CONGRATS* on the new bike. Kinda thirsty out don't ya
think?

Are you having trouble with it, if so what problem? The idle circuit is
adjusted with a screw on the top of your slide. Some are fitted with a
thumb screw, otherwise you will have to remove the plug and do it with a
screwdriver. Each click is 1/4 turn. If equiped with a thumb screw....hold
throttle wide open (don't try this running =8^O) push thumb screw down
into slot to adjust. CW will lean it out, CCW fatten it up. Too fat will
make it chuff out the carb at decelration making you look for intake leaks
(don't ask). If your problem is with 1/3 throttle to wide open you will
have to change to a different needle. HTH, I'll have black coffee please.

if that's so, you have the wrong needle in there, or the carb throat
is too big for the motor size. the proper needle in the proper mm
diameter carb will eliminate that problem immediately.

bullshit. the whole point of a flat slide carburetor with a tapered
needle is to eliminate the need for a accelerator pump. if you have
the right needle for the application, and the throat is the proper
size for the motor, an accelerator pump is just not needed.

well, obviously my opinion is different. it took a while, but when i
got mine dialed in, it delivers crisp, immediate rersponse, and
superior mileage. my 89" dresser will easily beat 40 mpg out on the
road at 75 mph and better, and it's running 80 hp, and 90+ lb.ft. of
torque. sounds like yours just hasn't been properly tuned. the biggest
problem with the carb is not enough people know how to tune it.
the big easy. which can be a problem, for sure.

why do you think you need to adjust it? is it doing something wrong?
my experience is that once it's right, all you have to do is ride it.
the big easy. i have 23000 on mine.
I guess that's why the Mikunis have an
accel pump on them huh, and they are
slide carbs. At low RPM there is not
enough velocity thru the throat to pickup
fuel from the bowl, thus the need for the
accel pump OR, higher velocity resulting
from higher RPM. Sure, jap moto-X bikes
have slide carbs frequently w/o accel pumps on them but they have the shit
revved outta them from start to finish of
a race, thus no velocity problems. The
Q-Silver can probably be tuned to
perform acceptably well. Ya just don't see
many on the street compared to S&S and
Mikuni and ya figure there's a reason why.

I only picked-up my dynaglide 2 days ago and after only 80 miles it was
running like a dog (with 3 legs), but after reading your responses and
downloading the relevant info from Edelbrock (which wasn't very helpful) I
think I've traced it to the idle mixture being too rich and carbing my plugs
up (dark black soot in less than 3 mins), I hope that's what it is anyway!
(I would appreciate a owners/tuning manual if anyone's got an electronic
version handy).
Question 1 for you:
I've now got my idle mixture set at a 3/4 turn from closed (lean), does this
sound about right?
Question 2 for you:
Should the idle mixture being too rich carb my plugs up (or do you think
it's the main jets, valves or piston rings?).
Thanks,
C.

some more questions, but not any other info to go along with it, so
it's pretty hard to answer. once again i will suggest investing in a
phone call to edelbrock, 877-888-7504, and ask for jason or mike. they
can answer your questions, and send you a manual.
the big easy. i found them quite helpful.
