Leaky forks

New seals didn't stop the air and oil from seeping , I suspect worn slider
bushings ... so I have a set here ready to install . The tubes are clean ,
smooth , and shiny , and I can think of no other reason they should leak
other than worn bushings letting the lower leg move enough to distort the
sealing lip . So today while the wife is at the grocery store stocking up
<freezer jumped on my truck and rode up with me this time> I'll be putting
the bike up on Mr Lift and tearing it down again .
This time I'm going to replace a flaky voltmeter <NIB Harley unit , 20
bucks delivered , thank you eBay!> while I'm inside the fairing and remember
to hook up the tripmeter reset knob ...

Eventually you'll find the cause. Pretty soon there won't be anything
that you haven't changed out!

OK. He didn't say that. He died in 1964, but he would have if he were
alive today.

Heh. The tripometer is my fuel gauge. The regular fuel gauge hasn't
worked in years and I have never been able to fix it. I'd rather rely on
miles ridden instead of a gauge, anyway.

I don't rely on the guage either , like you I go by miles . I had to rotate
the new voltmeter a bit off vertical so the tripmeter reset could be
connected , the new meter is deeper than the old one . Got the new bushings
installed and the bike all back together . Time will tell if I got it this
time . Got air in the forks , but last time it took a few miles for things
to seal up .

My fuel gauge only works in the daytime. Well..., it actually works
whenever the key is on, but the light ain't working...

The light on the tripometer works though. I use a combination of both.
If the gauge is between empty and 1/8 when standing up straight, or I've
gone 130 miles, I start looking. One time I thought I could squeak out
another 10 miles from 1/8 on the gauge even though the tripo said 135,
and ended up pushing.... one time.

I'm putting the gas can in the tourpak before I head to town tomorrow ...
or maybe I'll just pour a quart or so into the tank . Hasn't hit reserve yet
, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to push 800 lbs of bike anywhere ... and
I know for sure I've got over 165 or so on this tank plus warm-ups .
