Just put on V and H straight shots on 2002 fxst. During 1st 400 miles of
break in ( all miles less than 55 MPH ) the front exhaust pipe, near the
muffler end is turning blue black. Any help would be appreciated.

It doesn't idle well, doesn't run well at low RPM's and it's turning
blue? Time to check the carb, jets, timing, etc...maybe it's not the
pipes.

Bummer.....
Did you rejet the carb and open up the breather?

Sounds to me like you are most likely running way to lean.
I would expect blueing, but not like that. Also, heat shields
can help as far as cosmetics (they came with my V&H pro pipe).

Check the plugs. They should have some black soot on the outer
edge, and a pretty white insulater. I run my RK on the rich
side, but that's just a personal preferance.

If you have fuel injection, you most definately need it recalibrated.
If it's a carb, you may need to re-jet, or simply adjust the idle
mixture.
Only a good investigation will tell or not.

PS
On another note - Straight pipes are generally only good for one
thing - wide open. If you want practical, streetable power, a muffler
is a must. My V&H 2 into 1 pro pipe sounds great, but still has
plenty of low and mid range power.

Cool - but what color did you want? Blue-black is a good one. I hate the
yellows, personally. Did you think they were going to stay chrome colored?

I'm not sure what the problem is. Pipes blueing in general or pipes
blueing in some specific fashion?

Jerry.....that pipe sucks so bad at low end performance that they have to
jet the carb really rich. Your fucked.....get use to black and blue like
the shiner the dealer gave you.
