Hey all, I have a 97 FLHRI and when I bought it had stock pipes. I put
on Sampson's turnouts and thought that it would be the sound I was
looking for but it's really not!! It's not too bad but the other day I
was out with this babe that had an 883 and had the Harley Davidson pipes
on it (they weren't the stock pipes) and that thing sounded badder than
my big twin!!! What's the deal with that???? You could definitly hear
hers and mine was a more muffled sound. I have been hearing but am not
sure yet that if you have fuel injection that you cannot get that low
and loud sound that I am looking for is this true>????? What did I
do????? Oh no!!! I have the stock (slip on's) pipes that came with it
and was thinking about putting them on and drilling out the baffles bit
by bit until I get to the sound I am looking for if I can. Maybe take
them right out???? Any thoughts on this subject???? E-mail to me if
you can. My bike is pictured at the link below if you would like to see
it under "pictures" Nice looker just want her LOUDER!!!!!!! Jim

Save the stock pipes. Get an extra set and build a baffle for it. I did a
set for my 96 FLHTC and like them much better that the Cycle Shack slip
ons I was running. It will be some work but you will like the result.

It's true Jim the fueler's sound different, also a Harley mechanic told
me there is something different inside the engine, I can't remember what
he said though...Roadstar&HarleyDavidson...Alan.

I've got a '97 fuel injected Road King. It's got the HD hop-up kit, a cam
and a Thunderheader. The chrome on the Thunderheader isn't the greatest as
you've probably heard but the performance is there and the sound is - oh,
so sweet. Get one. You won't regret it.
Drag pipes may sound bad but hang around the dyno's during Bike Week and
you'll see that loudest isn't the bestest.

Jim, I Had a '96FLHRI, I ran Sampson true dual's(it eliminates the crossover)
with 2" staight slip on's and a 1 3/4" I.D. louvered baffle. I had to upgrade
the ignition to an ajustable setup(from HD) to compensate for the flow. Just
like a carberated bike. It gave me deep sound your looking. I also upgraded the
cam to a EV27 for performance(this is a good cam for road king, it starts
pulling at 1500RPM.

I love the sound and look of my Vance and Hines slip-ons on my FLHRCI
twin cam. Nice deep rumble and first class finish. Did the Stage 1 air
cleaner and EFI module too.

Put on Bub Decker slipons. Sounds just right. Pretty loud when you
twist on the loudhandle. Not back just cruising. Other bros have tried
Bartels slipons. Not bad sound but I don't like to the big end look of
them. I tried drilling out the stock decker mufflers, just ended up
sounding more like a big air compressor to me. The Bub pipes also made
some power confirmed from a dyno test done on my FLHR. 70 horsepower,
80 torque. With Headquarters boltin cam, Dyna ignition module, Mikuni
42 carb.

I bet she just had her stock mufflers taken off and had Harley Davidson
Screamen Eagle mufflers put on in there place, now you also need to have
your carb rejetted. On a Road King that could be a touchy subject. That is
if your is fuel injected. Oh the Harley Davidson Screamen Eagle Mufflers
are $99.00 plus or minus $20.00. They also give your bike better
performance.
