Bad news from Zillah WA, three down, one dead. Gunfight broke out just
before noon Sat at ABATE Spring Opener. Cops locked everything down
for about 5 hours, nobody in/out until they'd gone over the scene and
questioned everybody in camp. Word is that patchholders were involved,
(BMC & ILMC). Police presence is large to say the least as they were
expecting more trouble. Don't know what went down or who shot who but
they didn't have a suspect in custody as of last night when I left.

Richland man suspected in Valleyshoot-out

This story was published 6/21/2000

By Kristina Lord
Herald Valley bureau

A Richland man is being held on $500,000 bail in the Yakima County jail after a
shoot-out during a weekend motorcycle rally near the Yakima River in Zillah.

Dale Chandler, 33, is to be arraigned today in Yakima County District Court. He
could face second-degree murder charges in connection with Saturday's shooting,
the Yakima County Prosecutor's Office indicated. Prosecutors declined to
discuss details of the case because it is under investigation but said Chandler
is a suspect in the shoot-out.

Chandler, a member of the Bandido motorcycle gang, was shot in the shoulder
during the rally at Eagle Park. A search of court records indicated he does not
have a prior criminal record.

A fellow Bandido, Frederick Entzel, 48, of Benton City, died from a single
gunshot wound to the chest.

Lt. Dan Garcia of the Yakima County Sheriff's Office said Entzel and Chandler
were shot by the same person. He said many details of the shooting are still
being sorted out.

"We're not positive who shot Entzel. We have a pretty good idea, but we're not
ready to release that," Garcia said.

A third shooting victim, a 29-year-old man from the Tacoma area, is a member of
the Iron Horsemen motorcycle gang. The Yakima County Sheriff's Office has
refused to release his name because he has not been charged.

"The mystery is who shot the (Iron Horseman). He was shot by a Bandido. But we
haven't clearly identified who shot him," Garcia said.

Tom Lathen, a spokesman for Sunnyside Community Hospital, said sheriff's
deputies requested the hospitalized Horseman be moved to a Yakima-area hospital
"to better assure his safety." Lathen said the man would be transferred today.

He remains listed in serious condition in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Police confirmed that a .38-caliber revolver and possibly a .380 semiautomatic
pistol and another gun were used during the shoot-out. Officers recovered six
guns at the crime scene.

Off-duty officers hired to work security at the annual motorcycle rally
estimate 12 shots were fired. But other witnesses say up to 20 shots were
discharged.

Garcia said police have not had problems at past rallies with the two groups
before.

The Bandidos and Iron Horsemen are national rival motorcycle gangs. Garcia said
the Bandidos are the largest motorcycle group in the nation.

During Saturday's shooting, Garcia said the Bandidos heavily outnumbered the
Iron Horsemen. Police believe turf wars sparked the altercation.

"The Iron Horsemen were there, and it appears they had been told not to expand
into the Washington area and not to recruit, and they apparently did," Garcia
said.

About 30 to 35 Bandidos came to the small Iron Horsemen camp around noon
Saturday after arguments a day earlier. The gunfire lasted just a couple of
minutes, Garcia said.

As I understand it the Ironhorsemen are sponsored by the HAs? Will this cause a
return to the early 70s?
